C3 epimerization and selective C2C3 bond fission of alkyl chrysanthemate

Gohfu Suzukamo; Masami Fukao; Mitsuhisa Tamura

Abstract Treatment of alkyl chrysanthemate with Lewis acid leads to C 3 epimerization, while protonic acid treatment gives rise to selective C 2 C 3 bond cleavage. The latter method is successfully applied to the synthesis of optically active tetrahydrolavandulol.

Preparation of solid superbase catalyst and its application to the synthesis of fine chemicals

Gohfu Suzukamo; Masami Fukao; Takuo Hibi; Kozo Tanaka; Masao Minobe

Abstract A solid superbase whose basicity (H_) is higher than 37 has been prepared by the successive treatment of γ-alumina with alkali metal hydroxide and alkali metal at 200–600°C under nitrogen. The solid base has been found to be highly effective in the catalytic isomerization of olefinic double bonds and in the side-chain alkylation of alkylbenzenes with olefins.
