Possible Functional Domains in a Quinoprotein Alcohol Dehydrogenase from Acetobacter aceti

Takafumi Inoue; Megumi Sunagawa; Akihiko Mori; Chuhei Imai; Masao Fukuda; Masamichi Takagi; Keiji Yano

Abstract The amino acid sequence of the dehydrogenase subunit of quinoprotein alcohol dehydrogenase from Acetobacter aceti was found to have considerable similarity to that of a cytochrome c -555 and of a quinoprotein glucose dehydrogenase. It is suggested that the dehydrogenase subunit may be composed of two functional domains corresponding to dehydrogenase and cytochrome c .

PMYL, a Large Plasmid of Azotobacter Vinelandii AVY5, has DNA Sequences Hybridizable to KPNIF and PPXYL

Keiji Yano; Miyo Anazawa; Fukashi Murai; Masao Fukuda

Nitrogen fixation is an anaerobic and energy-consuming process. It must have evolved very early. The structural genes of “nitrogenase”, at least a part, have been highly conserved among evolutionarily distant nitrogen fixers irrespective of the responses to oxygen.
