Mode of invasion, bleomycin sensitivity, and clinical course in squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity

Forty patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity were treated with bleomycin prior to undergoing surgery. The degree of the clinical effect of bleomycin and the postoperative clinical course of each case were estimated from the viewpoint of correlation with the mode of invasion. A strong correlation was found among the mode of invasion, bleomycin sensitivity, and clinical course. A slight effect of bleomycin and poor prognosis existed in the group with a diffuse invasion of mode of invasion, while the greatest effect of bleomycin and good clinical course were achieved in the group with a welldefined tumor‐host borderline.

Immunohistochemical study on expression of p34cdc2 in tongue squamous cell carcinomas with special reference to clinicopathological findings.

細胞周期に直接作用する蛋白質p34cdc2の発現を舌扁平上皮癌63例で免疫組織化学的に観察した。p34cdc2の発現は全症例中, 34例 (54.0%) を認めた。平均陽性細胞率は17.7%であった。p34cdc2の組織内局在は癌胞巣では周辺部であり, び漫性浸潤癌では散在して観察された。p34cdc2の発現とT因子との関連では, p34cdc2はT1群で4/11例 (36.4%) , T2群で22/37例 (59.5%) , T3群で4/5例 (80.0%) と発現され, T1, T2, T3の順で高値を示したが, T4群では4/10例 (40.0%) と低値となった。N因子との関連では, p34cdc2の発現はN0群では14/32例 (43.8%) であったのに比して, N1群で19/25例 (76.0%) であったが, N2群で1/6例 (16.7%) と低値であった。Stageとの関連でもp34cdc2の発現はStage I, Stage II, Stage IIIの順で高値となり, Stage IVで低値となる結果であった。すなわち, 舌癌の臨床的進行度に相応して細胞増殖能が高くなるが, 逆に著しく進行した癌では細胞増殖能が低下することが示唆された。p34cdc2の発現と病理組織学的所見との関連ではp34cdc2はWHOのGrade IIIで5/5例 (100%) , 浸潤様式4C, 4D型で10/15例 (66.7%) , 細胞異型性「強」で13/17例 (76.5%) と発現され, 有意に高値を示した。すなわち, p34cdc2の発現は舌癌の組織学的な悪性度所見と相応していた結果が得られた。以上の結果より, P34cdc2発現の検索は舌扁平上皮癌の悪性度の本態解明に有用と考えられた。
