Load Resistance Characteristics of LiNbO3 Piezoelectric Transformers

We studied a single crystal LiNbO3 piezoelectric transformer composed of 140° rotated Y plate that uses the piezoelectric transverse effect and longitudinal vibration. When driven with a constant voltage, the dependence of the voltage transformation ratio depends remarkably on load resistance. When the load resistance is above about 10 kΩ, the voltage ratio increases in proportion to load resistance in an ideal case. The transmission characteristics we measured closely match the calculated value when the elastic loss at the support and the floating capacitance of the electrodes are considered.
