Les problemes de la cartographie internationale des plissements et la feuille d9Algerie-Tunisie de la carte tectonique d9Europe

Andre Caire; Louis Glangeaud; Maurice Mattauer

the major structural units of the Algerian-Tunisian region, from south to north and from lowest upward, are the pre-Saharan units, corresponding to the autochthonous basement and comprising a Paleozoic craton and its cover; the intra-Tellian autochthonous complex; the semirigid Kabylian structure and its cover; the plastic Tell nappes; and the post-nappe Mio-Plio-Quaternary cover. Each of these units is described, the autochthonous, parautochthonous, and allochthonous units of the Tell region, Algeria, are defined, and the evolution of the Alpine orogeny in Algeria is outlined as a guide for the selection of symbols for representing the units on the Algerian Tunisian sheet of the international tectonic map.

Sur la structure d'une partie de l'Atlas tellien septentrional

Andre Caire; Pierre Chauve; Louis Glangeaud; Maurice Mattauer

Discusses the extent of occurrence of horizontally displaced sedimentary masses in the northern Atlas range in the Tell region, Algeria, and ascribes the mechanism of emplacement of these allochthonous lenses to successive flows on flexure fronts.

Sur la presence de structures obliques dans l'Atlas tellien de la province d'Alger

Maurice Mattauer

Establishment of the stratigraphy of the Tell (Maritime) Atlas range in Algeria reveals structural anomalies, principally a structural depression crossing the entire Tell region and folds and faults oblique to the general east-west trend of the region. These are explained as the result of major dislocations of the basement, which have a northeast-southwest orientation. It is suggested that similar anomalies in other parts of Algeria can be explained on the same basis.
