Profile of puerperal women hospitalized in a hospital

Objective: to know the profile of puerperal women admitted in a university hospital of the Rio Grande do Norte state, Brazil, regard to the sociodemographic and obstetric aspects. Method: this is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach, with the interview of 148 women who experienced at least 12 h in a collective lodging. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), under the Opinion 172/2007. Results: it was found that 50% of puerperal women are aged between 21 and 30 years, 43.9% are married, 38.5% are housewives, 45.3% has a family income of up to a minimum wage, 52% has not finished elementary school, and 34.5% lived in the town. Regarding the number of pregnancies, 95.6% of the women with 1 or 2 pregnancies were between 14 and 20 years old, the average number of live children was 1.59, and the average number of dead children was 0.16. Out of the interviewed women, 97% attended prenatal care appointments, and 69.6% had their children born by vaginal delivery. Conclusion: considering the profile identified, there is a considerable provision of educative actions to the professionals working in this institution, favoring the improvement of the assistance offered to this population. Mothers´ lived experience in the rooming-in facing the kangaroo-mother method

ABSTRACT Objective: to describe the experience of mothers facing the Kangaroo-Mother Method (KMM) in rooming-in and identify the family involvement in this process. Method: qualitative and descriptive study using as a data-collection technique the focus group with recorded interviews, in two groups of kangaroo-mothers puerperas in a rooming-in of a public maternity on Natal/RN, in the period of one week, from the research thematic entitled: e xperience of mothers facing the KMM in rooming-in and the family involvement in this process . The study was approved by the Ethics in Research Committe of UFRN, under Embodied Opinion Prot. No. 84/03 CEP-UFRN Results: it emerged three thematic points: Helping child in developing slowly, step by step; Promoting contact with the baby that should still be in the womb; and expecting every day for the baby’s growing and adjustment. Conclusion: despite the difficulties in keeping this method by institutional problems nowadays, it is still an efficient method. These difficulties can be minimized by existing perinatal policies, aimed at preventing damage to the health of premature babies, creating peacefulness for the neonatal healthcare team and the whole family. RESUMO Objetivos: descrever a vivencia de maes frente ao Metodo Mae Canguru (MM-C) no alojamento conjunto e identificar o envolvimento da familia nesse processo. Metodo: estudo descritivo qualitativo utilizando como tecnica de coleta o grupo focal com entrevistas gravadas em dois grupos de puerperas maes-canguru no alojamento conjunto de uma maternidade publica em Natal/RN, no periodo de uma semana, a partir de um roteiro tematico: v ivencia de maes frente ao MM-C em alojamento conjunto e o envolvimento da familia nesse processo. O estudo foi aprovado pelo Comite de Etica em Pesquisa da UFRN com Parecer Consubstanciado Prot. No 84/03 CEP-UFRN. Resultados: e mergiram tres nucleos tematicos: Ajudando o filho no desenvolvimento lento, passo a passo; Favorecendo o contato com o bebe que deveria ainda estar no utero e Expectando a cada dia o aumento e a adaptacao do bebe. Conclusoes: apesar das dificuldades em se manter esse metodo pelas dificuldades institucionais na atualidade, ainda e um metodo eficiente. Essas dificuldades podem ser minimizadas pelas politicas perinatais vigentes, visando prevencao de danos a saude de bebes prematuros, gerando tranquilidade para toda equipe neonatal e familiar. RESUMEN Objetivos: describir la vivencia de madres frente al Metodo Madre-Canguro (MM-C) en el alojamiento conjunto, e identificar el envolvimiento de la familia en ese proceso. Metodo: estudio descriptivo y cualitativo utilizando como tecnica de colecta el grupo focal con entrevistas grabadas en dos grupos de puerperas madres-canguro en el alojamiento conjunto de una maternidad publica en Natal/RN, en el periodo de una semana. A partir de un rotero tematico: v ivencia de Madres frente al MM-C en alojamiento conjunto y el envolvimiento de la familia en ese proceso . El estudio fue aprobado por el Comite de Etica en Pesquisa de la UFRN con parecer justificado a traves del registro numero 84/03 CEP-UFRN. Resultados: emergieron tres nucleos tematicos: Ayudando al hijo en el proceso de desarrollo lento, paso a paso; Favoreciendo el contacto con el bebe que deberia estar todavia en el utero; Observando a cada dia el aumento y la adaptacion del bebe. Conclusiones: a pesar de las dificultades en mantenerse ese metodo por las dificultades institucionales en la actualidad todavia es un metodo eficiente. Esas dificultades pueden ser minimizadas por las politicas perinatales vigentes visualizando la prevencion de danos a la salud de bebes prematuros, generando tranquilidad para todo el equipo neonatal y familiar. Scientific production of articles about companions: literature systematic review

ABSTRACT Objective: to identify the scientific production about the companion form 1997 to 2007. Methodology : this about a literature systematic review study in Bireme database (Lilacs/Medline/SciELO), having in mind the databases, type of study, the journal and year of publication, with descriptors: companion, labor, womens´health, nursing care, family, reproductive health, nursing, according to the classification the health sciences descriptors (DeCS). Results : totaling 135 in the Lilacs, seven in Medline and five in SciELO, concluding 15 articles in Lilacs, two in the Medline and three in SciELO, coming thus, to have a statement of 20 articles on the determined time period. Conclusion: nowadays, are still very few publications on the companion practice with the right of woman to have a companion, in order the recognized act by the Ministry Health before the Law of the number 11.108 of 07 April 2005, under Ordinance 2.418/MS. Descriptors : companion; labor; woman´s health; nursing care; family. RESUMO Objetivo : identificar a producao cientifica sob o acompanhante num corte temporal de 1997 a 2007. Metodologia : trata-se de um estudo de revisao sistematica de literatura por meio dos bancos de dados da Bireme (Lilacs/Medline/SciELO) tendo-se em vista as bases de dados, tipo de estudo, periodico e o ano de publicacao, com os descritores: acompanhante, trabalho de parto, saude da mulher, assistencia de enfermagem, familia, saude reprodutiva, enfermagem, de acordo com a classificacao dos descritores em ciencias da saude (DeCS). Resultados : t otalizou 135 na base de dados Lilacs, sete no Medline e cinco na SciELO, finalizando com 15 artigos no Lilacs, dois no Medline e tres na SciELO, vindo assim, termos um computo de 20 artigos no corte temporal determinado. Conclusao : na atualidade, sao reduzidas as publicacoes quanto essa pratica com o direito da mulher a um acompanhante, tendo em vista o reconhecido pelo Ministerio da Saude diante da Lei de numero 11.108 de 07 de abril de 2005, segundo Portaria 2.418/MS. Descritores : acompanhante, trabalho de parto; saude da mulher; assistencia de enfermagem; familia. RESUMEN Objetivo: identificar la produccion cientifica bajo el acompanante en un corte temporal de 1997 a 2007. Metodologia: revision sistematica de literatura en los bancos de datos de la Bireme ( Lilacs/Medline/SciELO) teniendose en vista las bases de datos, tipo de estudio, periodico y el ano de publicacion con los descriptores: acompanante, trabajo de alumbramiento, salud de la mujer, atencion de enfermeria, familia, salud reprodutiva, enfermeria, de acuerdo com la clasificacion de los descriptores em ciencias de la salud (DeCS). Resultados: totalizo 135 en la base de datos Lilacs, sete en el Medline y cinco en la SciELO, finalizando con 15 articulos en el Lilacs, dois en el Medline y tres en la SciELO, venido asi, tenemos un computo de 20 articulos en el corte temporal determinado. Conclusion : en la actualidad, son reducidas las publicaciones cuanto esa practica com el derecho de la mujer a um acompanante, teniendo en vista el reconocido por el Ministerio de la Salud delante de la Ley de numero 11.108 de 07 de abril de 2005, segun Porteria 2.418/MS.
