3D printing or additive manufacturing is a process of producing three-dimensional solid objects from a software design. Color and material limitations for simultaneous usage, and relatively low printing speeds are the major problems of fused filament fabrication (FFF). In this study, an extrusion model with five nozzles is proposed to address the current deficiencies. The proposed extrusion model enables printing with five different colors and materials simultaneously without stopping the operational process while switching the filaments. The major advantage of the proposed model is that, the tailor made lightweight hot-end extruder is driven by only two motors. The proposed extrusion model provides a novel technique for 3D printing with multi-color and multi-material.

This paper presents the developed software configurations and control strategy of 3D measurement probe during measurement of gear profile. The total system consists of a web camera, 3D probe, work piece holder and integrated computer system through which complete control is performed. It mainly highlights the developed software features and discusses the control strategy of the 3D measurement probe in order to keep the measurement probe always align with its correct position. The system is able to record the displacement of the 3D probe in terms of X and Y coordinates value. Vision based measurement is very useful to increase the performance of the measurement. It can help to analyze the measurement result after the complete measurement is accomplished. The system also records video and saves image frames in real-time and also its able to open the video file in offline mode. In this paper, a vision based control theory is proposed mainly for the surface error measurement of various types of gears.

This paper presents a new type of mechanical actuator which is used to help in measuring deep holes that carry up to a load of 26kg during measurement. Often the measurement probe‘s attitude is misaligned due to acting force on it. Actuator prevents or controls the misalignment of such probe during measurement. In this research, the complete measurement system consists of a servo motor, a laser diode, a laser interferometer, an optical system as well as the integrated computer system. The main purpose of this research is to develop the new type of actuator which can control the attitude (position and inclination) of a measurement probe. The experimental results show that it is possible to carry mechanically the loads up to 26kg of the measurement probe during measurement of deep-holes. In this paper, the developed actuator’s mechanical function and its performance have been discussed with the experimental results.

This paper aims at developing a flexible video analysis system that can be used in wide range of video surveillance applications as well as to detect the human being. The developed system is called here as Smart Video Analysis System. This SVAS is able to detect and track interested objects. It can also detect people and recognize their activities in an application environment, such as in a room, supermarket, car, or security checkpoint. Designing a real-time video analysis system is a complex task, as many factors including processing speed, system cost, accuracy, and robustness, need to be carefully balanced. This research has focused these factors at two levels, algorithm level and software level. Background elimination algorithm is proposed in this paper to enhance the performance of Smart Camera systems in changing background and varying lighting condition environment. Finally, the software implementation of the Smart Camera Analysis Systems is applied to detect motion and then to trigger alarm for the security purposes. The system will trigger alarm once the motion is detected and when it exceeds the desire threshold value

This paper presents a unique design and development of Automated Pepper Sorting Machine (APSM) for industrial application. The design consists of several mechanical and electrical components such as motors, a micro-controller, hoper mechanism, suction tube, belt and pulley. In addition, a gantry crane is used in order to move the suction pipe across the conveyor belt to the exact position of the defective pepper. Furthermore, a camera is attached to the machine to identify defective paper based on colour of the defective pepper. The main purpose of this design is to automate sorting procedure for the pepper industry and to optimize its work efficiency.

Solar energy is one of the potential renewable energy which is also gaining popularity in recent years. The proposed small scale sun tracking solar power plant is a combination of mechanical design of structure and control system that maximizes solar energy accumulation by means of photovoltaic cells during real-time sun tracking. This project aims to overcome a few disadvantages of traditional solar photovoltaic systems with a new model. The new model consists of smaller modules, each having a few cells. The modules are constructed with solar cells sandwiched in between a transparent plastic layer on top and a heatsink at the bottom for sufficient cooling. Then, the modules are mounted onto a frame in V shape, consisting of two panels to allow for more heat dissipation and lower air resistance. The mechanical base supporting system for the panels has a linear motor which allows the panels to rotate in a single axis about the vertex of the V shaped frame. To confirm the feasibility of the developed system, performance analysis has been added at the end of this paper.

This paper presents the conceptual design and implementation of a cost effective 3D prototyping machine which encompasses the design of mechanical, electrical & electronics systems as well as integrated Software in order to create a workable prototype. The objective of this research is to design and develop a machine which is controlled by a computer and capable of producing 3D solid representation of a CAD model in plastic via plastic extruder. A XYZ axes system is developed in order to enable the machine to carry out the prototyping process efficiently and effectively. A control system for the stepper motors and heating actuator are also developed to satisfy the precision requirement of this machine. The total system covers the conceptual design, the development process and the integration of the mechanical system and electrical and electronic systems of 3D prototyping machine. Main focusing point of this paper is to design and develop the suitable temperature control system of 3D Rapid Prototyping Machine (RPM).

Camera based monitoring system has vital role in measuring deep hole parameters especially hole consists of long length and small diameter. The monitoring will help to eliminate errors in measuring deep hole parameters such as roundness, cylindricity etc. This paper proposed a camera based monitoring system for deep hole measurement. The camera is attached to the measurement head and rotates with the rotation of the measurement unit. It captures images, records videos and saves the measurement data in the storage. The monitoring system is aimed to enhance systems safety and reliability in measuring deep holes as well as to improve measurement accuracy.

There is a growing concern over the adverse health effects of exposure to high concentration of mould spores in the indoor environments. Copious epidemiological studies have shown a direct relationship between the exposure to indoor mould and several adverse health effects. The phenomenon of Sick building syndrome (SBS) and Building Related Illness (BRI) have also been attributed to moulds exposure in the indoor environment. In spite of this growing concern, little have been reported on the development of an objective mould assessment particularly criteria for visual inspection of mould growth on building materials. The main premise of this study is that visual inspection related with mould damaged material can lead to objective ranking of the severity of damaged material, and reduce the subjective nature of mould dam-aged estimation by the use digital image processing (DIP) techniques. A four stage technique procedure, involving image preprocessing, Image segmentation and mould analysis and classification stage for the detection of mould growth is examined in this paper. Results obtained when this proposed algorithm was applied to acquired digital images collected from different infested building materials indicates the appropriateness of this method in enhancing the visual assessment and grading associated with mould growth on building materials.
