Comparing efficiency of PV array connected to DC-DC converters applying modified P&O algorithm in real time hardware

Deepak Kumar Chy; Md. Khaliluzzaman

Renewable energy using a Photovoltaic array (PVA) is becoming increasingly important in present and future world. To control the operating point to extract the maximum power (MP) from PV generator is essentially vital as the power generated by PVAs hinges on solar irradiance, temperature and PVA Voltage. To fix the MP point (MPP) of PVA, a good number of algorithms have been presented. One of them is P&O algorithm. However, the likelihood of a false detection of MPP is very high under rapidly changing atmospheric condition. In addition to this, due to change in reference voltage results in steady state oscillation. In this paper, a Modified P&O algorithm is implemented to overcome those problems. The MP&O algorithm is used through the DC-DC converters. This converter is governed by an intelligent controller. Furthermore, the results show that MPPT based on Buck-Boost converter reveals higher efficiency compared to Buck converter. A hardware prototype is used and tested in laboratory.

Md. Khaliluzzaman; Shahela Pervin; Umme Moon Ima; Deepak Kumar Chy

Image transmission in noisy channel demands integrity of image, less transmission time, and faster processing. These can be achieved when the transmitted image is compressed. Nowadays, various types of compression methods are used for image compression. In this paper, DCT and DWT are applied for compression of image. Performance analysis of QAM for DCT- and DWT-based compressed image transmissions over AWGN channel is shown in this work. In addition, for better transmission efficiency and achieving the required bandwidth 32 cross-constellations QAM (C-QAM) modulation scheme is used. Furthermore, for measuring performance of image quality, PSNR and MSE values are taken into account. The simulation results reveal that with lower signal-to-noise ratio, raised cosine filter exhibits better performance than employing no filter. Inter-symbol interference (ISI), which plays an important role in image transmission, degrades the image quality, which may be eliminated by employing filter.

Analysing efficiency of DC-DC converters joined to PV system run by intelligent controller

Deepak Kumar Chy; Md. Khaliluzzaman; Rezaul Karim

Generating electricity using Photovoltaic Cells (PVCs) is a challenging task as photovoltic array hinges on solar irradiance, temperature and photovoltic Cells voltage (PVCsV). A maximum power point traker is indispensible to mitigate this challenging task. Developing efficient PV arrays strongly stresess to fix the operating point at MPP. In this paper, MPPT supported by Buck and Boost topologies are designed run by Intelligent Controller(IC). The intelligent controller is governed by improved perturb and obserb algorithm (IPOA). This algorithm helps the Boost converter always fix the operating point at maximum value regardless of atmospheric circumstances. Hence Boost converter exhibits better efficiency than Buck converter. A hardware model is used and laboratory testing of this model is performed.

A Low Complexity based Edge Color Matching Algorithm for Regular Bipartite Multigraph

Rezaul Karim; Muhammad Mahbub Hasan Rony; Md. Rashedul Islam; Md. Khaliluzzaman

An edge coloring of a graph G is a process of assigning colors to the adjacent edges so that the adjacent edges represents the different colors. In this paper, an algorithm is proposed to find the perfect color matching of the regular bipartite multigraph with low time complexity. For that, the proposed algorithm is divided into two procedures. In the first procedure, the possible circuits and bad edges are extracted from the regular bipartite graph. In the second procedure, the bad edges are rearranged to obtain the perfect color matching. The depth first search (DFS) algorithm is used in this paper for traversing the bipartite vertices to find the closed path, open path, incomplete components, and bad edges. By the proposed algorithm, the proper edge coloring of D – regular bipartite multi-graph can be obtained in O (D.V) time.

Pre and post controller based MVC architecture for web application

Md. Khaliluzzaman; Iftekher Islam Chowdhury

MVC design pattern is a well-known pattern used for architecting interactive software system. As it is partition independent, developer encourages partitioning MVC system to improve the performance. In this regard, an MVC architecture based reengineering framework is proposed in this paper. As a partition component, a pre-controller is introduced which is used some important modules. One of them is injecting dependencies to automatically provide the dependencies require for a controller. Another one is modularity which is used for reusing existing application module in the present application which has been built with the same framework. Furthermore, a request filter is used to provide an extra security layer to the controller. In addition to this, a post-controller is used to dispatch registered services and print out html view on the web page. The proposed framework is compared with two existing MVC based web application framework and results are presented to prove the effectiveness.

An Expert System to Detect Polycystic Ovary Syndrome under Uncertainty

Md. Khaliluzzaman; Md. Shahedul Islam; Rezaul Karim

This paper describes a prototype of clinical expert system for risk stratification of patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common hormonal disorder among women of reproductive age. It is a heterogeneous disorder of uncertain causes. Since the symptoms of PCOS are seemingly unrelated to one another the condition is often overlooked and undiagnosed. The determination of accurate degree or intensity of PCOS signs is difficult for the physician. Hence, the accuracy of diagnostic process is difficult to achieve. The signs and symptoms of PCOS are usually expressed in qualitative and quantitative ways. Since the qualitative factors can not measured in a quantitative way, various types of uncertainties may occurs such as incompleteness, vagueness, and imprecision. For that, it is necessary to address the issue of uncertainty by using appropriate methodology. However, no existing system is able to address this issue of uncertainty. Therefore, this paper demonstrates the application of a novel method, named belief rule-based inference methodology -RIMER; this prototype can deal with uncertainties in both clinical domain knowledge and clinical data. This paper reports the development of a Belief Rule Based Expert System (BRBES) using RIMER approach, which is capable of detect the PCOS by taking account of signs and symptoms.

Experimental assessment of PV arrays connected to Buck-Boost converter using MPPT and Non-MPPT technique by implementing in real time hardware

Deepak Kumar Chy; Md. Khaliluzzaman

Solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays are a great source of generation of renewable energy. Harvesting clean energy from photovoltaic cell is reliable, pollution and noise free, low maintenance and long lasting energy source. However, typical Voltage-Current (V-I) and Power-Voltage (P-V) characteristics curves of PV cells depend on the weather conditions such as temperature and irradiation. It is always difficult to fix Maximum Power Point (MPP) on V-I and P-V curve. In order to achieve maximum efficiency from PV cells, Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) is used. This paper presents a non-inverting Buck-Boost converter based on MPPT and Non-MPPT technique by implementing modified P&O algorithm through MPPT control circuit. The modified P&O algorithm is a simple algorithm that does not require previous knowledge of the PV characteristics. A PV system incorporating a solar panel, Buck-Boost converter and load as battery is modeled and implemented through hardware. Entire range of the duty cycle needs to be used for using this modified algorithm. Without adding much additional cost a desired efficiency is obtained. A microcontroller based PV system is used in this work.
