Strawberry has a unique status within the fruit species in terms of health and taste related compounds. This experimental study concerned the application of a bio-stimulant at various drip irrigation levels (IR125, IR100, IR75 and IR50). The effects of the bio-stimulant (seaweed extract) on the eating quality, i.e., the taste-related (TSS, fructose, glucose, sucrose and citric, malic, l-ascorbic acid), and health-related (antioxidant activity, total phenol, myricetin and quercetin) compounds were studied in two strawberry cultivars. The Rubygem with its higher sugar and lower acid content has been more preferable than the Kabarla cultivar. The bio-stimulant contributes to taste by improving the TSS, fructose, sucrose and also to health by increasing the quercetin content of the fruit which is associated to the cardiovascular properties and cancer reducing agents. The experiment conducted revealed significant increases only in the TSS contents and antioxidant activity under the IR50 and IR75 deficit irrigation treatments.

Strawberry production is one of the most important horticultural sectors in the Mediterranean coastal line of Turkey. This industry has developed day by day due to high price, yield and good marketing opportunity. However, there are some serious problems about yield due to plant nutrition. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of the calcium nitrate applications on the strawberry leaves nutrition amount during the active growing period (April and May). The results showed that, N and Ca concentrations of the leaves were not affected by different calcium nitrate applications except the period of April. The differences in terms of nutrient contents between cultivars are stemmed from genetical differences. Competition of cation was determined clearly with different doses of calcium nitrate applications and among cultivars. Farklı çilek çeşitlerinde kalsiyum nitrat uygulamalarının yapraktaki makro element konsantrasyonlarına etkisiUlkemizin Akdeniz sahilindeki cilek uretimi en onemli bahce bitkileri sektorlerinden birisidir. Bu uretim alani; iyi pazarlama olanaklari, yuksek fiyat ve verimden dolayi gun gectikce artmaktadir. Fakat verimi onemli duzeyde etkileyen bitki beslemeyle ilgili sorunlar vardir. Bu calismanin amaci; aktif yetistirme suresince cilek yapraklarindaki besin element icerikleri uzerine kalsiyum nitrat uygulamalarinin etkilerinin belirlenmesidir. Calisma sonucunda yapraklarin N ve Ca icerikleri farkli kalsiyum nitrat dozlarindan Nisan donemi disinda etkilenmemistir. Cesitler arasinda besin icerikleri bakimindan gozlenen farkliliklar buyuk oranda genetik farkliliktan kaynaklanmaktadir. Katyon rekabeti, cesitler arasinda ve farkli dozlarda yapilan uygulamalarda acik bir sekilde belirlenmistir.

In this study, the effects of different irrigation levels with bio-stimulant applications on leaf area, crown diameter, number of crown, leaf number and plant width were investigated in a variety of Kabarla . The trail was implemented as a 4×2 factorial scheme (irrigation levels and bio-stimulant use), in split plot design with 6 consequent months at 4 replicates, totaling 32 plots. Bio-stimulant applications were designed as main plot and different irrigation levels were arranged as sub plot. Strawberry plant was subjected to four irrigation water levels (Ir125, 1.25 Ep; Ir100, 1.0 Ep; Ir75, 0.75 Ep; Ir50, 0.50 Ep). Bio-stimulant applications were investigated on morphological parameters with compared by control plot. As a result of the experiment, irrigation levels and growing period influenced the leaf area, crown diameter, plant width, number of crown and leaf number. Bio-stimulant application just positively affected the number of leaf, while other parameters were not affected by the application. All examined parameters were taken same statistical group except of IR50 which negatively affected plant growth. Also as expected, all plant vegetative part increased with time and this increase was determined statistically significant among months. As a result of these data, IR75 irrigation level could be recommended in terms of optimal vegetative growing combined with bio-stimulant applications.
