Objectives: It was aimed to research pulmonary functions of sedentary males and athletes who engaged in different individual sports branches in the same age group. Methods: 50 male athletes in 15-16 age group in the star category participated from each of the branches of judo, athletics, wrestling, taekwondo, table tennis and swimming and 50 sedentary males participated as well; being in total 350 subjects. Among respiratory functions tests; vital capacity (VC), forced vital capacity (FVC) and maximum voluntary ventilation (MVV) values were measured. Results were compared. Results: As a result of measurement, VC values of wrestlers, swimmer and taekwondo athletes were significantly higher than the values of sedentary males in statistical size (p<0.05 and p<0.01). VC values of swimmers were significantly higher than athletes of judo, track and field and table tennis athletes (p<0.01). It was determined that FVC and FEV1 values of swimmers and wrestlers have significantly higher values than sedentary subjects (p<0.05). FVIC values of swimmers were significantly higher than athletes, table tennis players and sedanters (p<0.05 and p<0.01). MVV values of swimmers were significantly higher than judo, track and field and table tennis athletes (p<0.05). When the respiration rate (RR) was analyzed, RR value of table tennis players were significantly higher than wrestlers (p<0.05). Conclusion: As a result it was determined that respiratory functions were higher among subjects who do exercise compared to those who do not. That the respiratory parameters of athletes doing exercise from different branches of star category are higher than those who do not shows the effect of training on respiratory system. In addition to this, the difference of respiratory functions between branches shows that the sport branch influences the respiratory capacity.

Abstract The aim of this paper is to determine if and how mega sports organizations like the Olympics contribute to the countries’ economies, as well as its citizens’ well-being through tourism. The World Bank relevant economic data set from 1990-2012 was used for the paper. Australia, Greece and China’s tourism and GDP figures were analyzed by using the Multiple Linear Regression Model. The Eviews8 program was used for the Chow Breakpoint Test. In addition, Percentage Trend Analysis was also applied to the whole data. When Australia, Greece, and China examples were considered, the researchers found that the Olympics have breakpoint effect on these countries’ economic development and citizens’ well-being but not on tourism except for Greece. The view that mega organizations such as the Olympics will bring automatic, permanent and positive contribution to the economy through image rise and tourism must be reconsidered.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to determine the differences in the balance, vital capacity and reaction time parameters for impaired, sedentary and athletes. Vital capacity of the sedentary is statistically lower than that of all the impaired groups and athletes. The athletes’ vital capacity is meaningfully higher than the physically impaired. The average of the right and left hand reaction time to the sound is statistically higher of the sedentary than that of the visually and the physically impaired and the athletes, meanwhile the average of the visually impaired is lower than the physically impaired. Balance, vital capacity and reaction time were found to be higher for the impaired who were active in sports compared to the sedentary. The impaired who are active in any sports must be encouraged to continue doing those activities.

Abstract By improving the national branding countries believe to have some economic advantages in this competitive world. But the determining the effects of a national branding have always been very challenging. Export is considered one of the most effective ways of measuring the effects of the national branding due to its’ direct foreign exposure and accepted relationship between the country image and buyers’ preferences. For countries one of the important ways to achieve that seems to be the Olympics, a mega public relations organization. The paper tries to measure the effects of the Olympics on the national branding by analyzing the export figures of the host and runner-ups of the Olympics after 2000. The findings suggest that hosting the games is sufficient to boost trade but it is not necessary. And the Olympics’ effects on the national branding is not very clear in terms of exports.

Abstract This study aims to evaluate hand grip strength with respect to handedness in Turkish male and female athletes. Data were collected from 268 female and 1,234 male participants. There was no significant difference between right- and left-hand grip strength only in male left-handers. Right-hand grip strength was greater than left-hand grip strength without regard to handedness in both genders, but left-handed athletes had stronger non-dominant hands.
