Liquid Phase Chemical Hydrogen Storage: From Recent Developments to Future Objectives

Abstract The hydrolytic dehydrogenation of aqueous boron–nitrogen (B–N)-based compounds such as NaBH4 and NH3BH3 has received much attention, and because of their high hydrogen content they have been shown to be promising hydrogen carriers for storage and transportation. Formic acid (HCOOH), a major product formed in biomass processing, has been intensely investigated for liquid phase chemical hydrogen storage owing to its high energy density, stability, and nontoxicity. In this chapter, we focus on advances in research on hydrogen storage and release of these liquid phase hydrogen storage materials. Main advantages and drawbacks of these systems in liquid phase hydrogen storage are also discussed.

A new method for the reaction of cross-coupling: preparation of 5,5′-bi(1,10-phenanthroline)

Abstract Synthesis and characterization of 5,5′-bi(1,10-phenanthroline) (3) are described. Compound 3 was obtained by treatment of 5-chloro-1,10-phenanthroline (1) with 4-hydroxy- phthalonitrile (2) in the presence of K2CO3 as a base in DMF at room temperature for 25 h.

Synthesis of metallophthalocyanines with four oxy-2,2-diphenylacetic acid substituents and their structural and electronic properties

Abstract The synthesis and characterization of new copper-, magnesium- and cobalt- phthalocyanine complexes are reported. It appears that these complexes are not aggregated in THF in the concentration range of 1×10−5–1×10−6 m. Additional structural and electronic data about the new complexes were obtained by calculations with the application of density functional theory at B3LYP/6-31G(d, p) level.
