Evolución de la forma urbana de Carmona. El análisis del plano en el estudio histórico de la ciudad

Mercedes Díaz Garrido

mong the many points of view from which the city can be contemplated, the study of its historical evolution, its construction over time, becomes a field of confluence of different professionals. Geographers, historians, archaeologists, and architects share their interest in the city as a historic construction, even with different approaches. Among the instruments of inquiry to be used, the analysis of the town plan, understood as an image of urban form, appears as a privileged method, based on the idea of form as a result of the process of forming. In Carmona it has been possible to test this analysis within a multidisciplinary research around the priory church of Santa Maria, in the study of the relationship between architecture and city through two frames: the whole of the old city, and the city around of priory church. At the same time work has given rise a reflection on the method of analysis itself and its foundations, over the concepts of morphology and stratigraphy, and towards greater definition.

Analysis of the Plan for the Study of the Historic City. Methodological Transfers Between Architecture and Archeology

Mercedes Díaz Garrido

This paper deals with the study of the historic city through the plot plan as a source of knowledge. Methodological issues are tackled in their relation to two different yet linked concepts, morphology and stratigraphy, with the purpose of setting the basis for each and their respective links to the areas of architecture and archeology as disciplines, and a proposal is made for the application of both concepts to the analysis of the plan. At the background lies the reflection on drawing in investigation and on the need for multidisciplinary outlooks.
