Among the many questions concerning instructional television that have been raised in the past two or three years are several that deal with the feasibility of televised mathematics instruction. Related to this, the progress of Washington Universitys program of televised mathematics instruction is familiar to many teachers of mathematics. Some may also know of the calculus course currently being offered in the Washington, D. C., area under the auspices of the National Academy of Sciences. Both of these programs are of considerable interest, but neither has yet provided information to permit an empirical test of the effectiveness of such instructionl. We suggest that the following report is of interest for two main reasons.
