Inequality and Economic Growth: Trickle Down Effect Revisited

The purpose of this study is to investigate the validity of trickle down effect by using unbalanced panel data analysis for 65 countries in the period of 1995-2011. The estimation results point out that an increase in the incomes of the rich raises the incomes of the poor and vice versa. Nevertheless it can be clearly said that the contribution of the income transfer of the poor to the rich is more dominant than vice versa. Therefore, the invalidity of trickle down effect can be stated in 65 countries. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

NE İHRAÇ ETTİĞİMİZ ÖNEMLİ MİDİR? TÜRKİYE EKONOMİSİ DIŞ TİCARETİNİN UZMANLAŞMA SEVİYESİ ÜZERİNE

Bu calismada, EXPY olarak adlandirilan ihracat sofistikasyonun dis ticaret hadleri ve ekonomik buyume sureci uzerindeki etkileri 13 urun grubu icin Turkiye ekonomisinde 1995-2015 donemi itibariyle yapisal kirilmali zaman serisi analizleri kullanilarak incelenmistir. Duragan durum dengesine dogru yakinsama surecinin gecerli oldugunu gosteren analiz bulgulari, ileri teknoloji ve sermaye-yogunluguna sahip endustrilerdeki ihracat sofistikesinin ekonomik buyumeyi ve dis ticaret hadlerini artirdigini, buna karsin emek ve dogal kaynak-yogunlugu yuksek olan endustrilerin ihracat sofistikesinin ise ekonomik buyume ve dis ticaret hadlerini kotulestirdigini ortaya koymustur. Ayrica, ekonomik ve finansal kriz donemlerinde ekonomik buyume ve dis ticaret hadlerinin negatif yonlu olarak etkilendikleri de gozlenmistir. Bu baglamda, Turkiye ekonomisi icin dis ticaretin baslayip baslamadiginin onemli olmadigi soylenebilir, onemli olan husus Turkiye’nin hangi urunleri ihrac ettigidir.

Jevons Paradox:An Econometric Analysis on Energy Efficiency and Rebound Effect

In this study, the effects of energy efficiency, rebound effect, on energy production, consumption, saving, import as well as inflation and current account deficit are examined using time series analysis in the period of 1967-2015 in Turkish economy. Firstly, in order to determine the stationary level of the variables ADF and PP unit root tests are used and the results show that all of the variables considered within the model are stationary at the first difference level. Second, the finding of Johansen-Juselius cointegration analyze reveals the existence of long-run relationships among variables, and Granger causality analysis reflects at least the validity of one-way causal links among variables. The findings of the VEC analysis point out that the Jevons Paradox or rebound effect is valid in the Turkish economy, which means that energy consumption rises as energy efficiency and production increases. In addition, the findings show that depending on increasing energy consumption energy import level rises and therefore current account deficit and inflation begin to deteriorate, also.

FINDIK SEKTÖRÜ, EKONOMİK VE YAPISAL PROBLEMLERİ: ORDU İLİ DEĞERLENDİRMESİ

Turkiye, findik uretiminde ve ihracatinda dunyada belirleyici ulke konumundadir. Turkiye‟de findik tari-minin agirlikli olarak yapildigi bolge olan Dogu Karadeniz‟de, ozellikle Ordu ilinde findik sektoru iktisadi hayatin en onemli ogesidir. Bu calismada, Ordu ilinin tarimsal yapisi incelenmis ve ilin ekonomisi icin cok onemli bir urun olan findigin dunyadaki, Turkiye‟deki ve bolgedeki mevcut durumu ele alinmistir. Ayrica bolgede findik sektorunde karsilasilan ekonomik sorunlar ortaya konulmus ve Yeni Findik Stratejisi incelenmistir. Sektorun daha etkin ve surdurulebilir bir nitelige kavusabilmesi icin bazi cozum onerileri sunulmustur. Yeni Findik Stratejisi ile birlikte sektorde arz ve talep dengesinin sadece kisa donemde saglanabilecegi ve bunu uzun doneme yaymak icin dogru politikalarin takip edilmesinin gerekli oldugu sonucuna varilmistir.
