Image data compression

Judith A. Goldstein; Lawrence K. Freytag; Michael Keith

SummaryThe tutorial will expand on all of the topics outlined above and will provide additional information on other compression techniques. The practical implications of data compression and the important considerations in choosing a compression scheme will also be discussed. Development of new compression algorithms remains an active area of investigation and will continue to increase the degree of compression possible.

Artistic choice in the display of chaotic dynamics

Michael Keith

Abstract The analysis of chaotic systems often involves the visual display of the speed with which a variable changes as a function of iteration. In this paper, I survey existing algorithms (and present many new ones) for mapping these integers into screen pixel values to create images that are both scientifically and artistically interesting.
