Artistic choice in the display of chaotic dynamics

Abstract The analysis of chaotic systems often involves the visual display of the speed with which a variable changes as a function of iteration. In this paper, I survey existing algorithms (and present many new ones) for mapping these integers into screen pixel values to create images that are both scientifically and artistically interesting.
