Evaluation of the effect of environmental variables on health condition of Quercus robur L. in parks.

Abstract Investigations concerned the effect of different environmental variables on health condition of English oak (Quercus robur L.). It was shown that in the public parks in the city of Poznan the health condition of the analysed species is good. It was stated that health condition of this species in the Poznan parks is influenced by the distance from the immediate city centre, vicinity of traffic arteries and gas emissions from the combustion of fossil fuels by households neighbouring with the parks. Although results recorded in this study confirm literature data concerning the effect of environmental variables on health condition of English oak (Quercus robur L.), it was shown that certain environmental variables have a greater effect on health condition of the analysed species in Poznan. Abstrakt Badania dotyczyły wpływu różnych zmiennych środowiskowych na stan zdrowotny dębu szypułkowego (Quercus robur L.). Wykazano, że na terenie parków publicznych Poznania stan zdrowotny omawianego gatunku jest dobry. Stwierdzono, że wpływ na stan zdrowotny tego gatunku w parkach Poznania mają: oddalenie od ścisłego centrum miasta, bliskość arterii komunikacyjnych oraz emisja gazów ze spalania paliw kopalnych przez sąsiadujące z parkami gospodarstwa domowe. Mimo że wyniki uzyskane w pracy potwierdzają dane literaturowe dotyczące wpływu zmiennych środowiskowych na stan zdrowotny dębu szypułkowego (Quercus robur L.), to wykazano, że niektóre zmienne środowiskowe mają większy wpływ na stan zdrowotny badanego gatunku w Poznaniu.

Changes in the area of urban green space in cities of western Poland

Abstract Extensive and continuous areas of urban greenery are essential for the proper functioning of cities and for achieving optimal natural conditions. The aim of our study was to investigate the changes in the areas of public green space of Szczecin, Poznań and Wrocław in the years 1996–2013, and compare data on public greenery with demographic data and changes in the spatial development of the described cities. We used a linear regression and exponential regression to explain the results. In our opinion, it is necessary to establish the appropriate proportion of public greenery to the built-up areas in cities. Otherwise, we will be observing an adverse reduction of green areas in relation to residential areas. Surveys also indicate the need for action to prevent the outflow of population to the suburban areas.

Compositional aspects and a concept of revalorisation of a fragment of the palace and park complex in Gorzyń

Streszczenie. Zespół pałacowo-parkowy w Gorzyniu (woj. wielkopolskie) charakteryzuje się naturalistycznym założeniem parkowym z początków XIX wieku, usytuowanym na skarpach nad Jeziorem Gorzyńskim. Celem pracy było sporządzenie koncepcji rewaloryzacji fragmentu zabytkowego założenia pałacowo-parkowego w skali 1 : 500. Opracowanie projektowe było poprzedzone badaniami terenowymi i analizami obiektu. Sformułowano również wytyczne konserwatorskie w celu natychmiastowego zabezpieczenia zabytkowego obiektu. W proponowanej koncepcji rewaloryzacji zabytkowego zespołu pałacowo-parkowego w Gorzyniu teren podzielono na pięć stref o zróżnicowanym programie i funkcjach. Pierwsza strefa – wjazdowa – obejmuje obszar projektowanego parkingu, głównej bramy i alei prowadzącej do rezydencji. Druga strefa – reprezentacyjna – to dwa odtworzone podjazdy przed pałacem i dworem wraz z ozdobnymi formami kwietnikowymi. Trzecia strefa – rekreacyjna – to część wysoczyzny skarpy przy pałacu i dworze (od strony elewacji ogrodowych). Czwarta strefa – spacerowo-wypoczynkowa – to stok skarpy z układem dróg spacerowych, ławek wypoczynkowych oraz zrekonstruowanym pawilonem widokowym. Piąta strefa to teren plaży i brzeg jeziora z odtworzoną miniprzystanią dla łódek.

The impact of urban conditions on different tree species in public green areas in the city of Poznań

Abstract Parks in urbanised areas fulfil an important function as they create a positive climate in cities and contribute to the good health of their inhabitants. The study gives an answer to the question of which of the species under investigation is the most suitable for planting in urbanised areas. The aim of the research conducted from 2013 to 2014 at selected sites in Poznan (Poland) was to determine the state of health of Tilia cordata Mill., Acer platanoides L. and Quercus robur L. trees and to compare their state of health depending on the location of the research sites. The aim of the research was also to determine the environmental variables that may have an influence on the state of health of the tree species under analysis. The research included statistical analyses and models based on discriminant analysis. The research revealed that the state of health of the tree species under investigation growing in the city is determined by anthropogenic factors. The closeness of the city centre, main thoroughfares and estates heated with fossil fuels are the factors that have the most negative influence on the state of health of oak, maple and lime trees. Acer platanoides L. was the species in the best state of health in parks, whereas in forests it was Tilia cordata Mill.
