Makaluvamine G, a cytotoxic pigment from an an Indonesian Sponge Histodermella sp.

John R. Carney; Paul J. Scheuer; Michelle Kelly-Borges

Abstract A cytotoxic pigment, makaluvamine G ( 5 ), biogenetically derivable from tryptamine and tyramine and structurally related to the discorhabdins, was isolated from a sponge of the genus Histodermella collected in Indonesia. The compound displays significant in vitro cytotoxicity to several tumor cell lines and is a moderate inhibitor of topoisomerase-I, DNA, RNA, and protein synthesis.

Tetrahedron Letters | 1995

Elenic acid, an inhibitor of Topoisomerase II, from a sponge, Plakinastrella sp.

Elen G. Juagdan; Raju S. Kalidindi; Paul J. Scheuer; Michelle Kelly-Borges

Abstract Elenic acid ( R -2,4-dimethyl-22-( p -hydroxyphenyl)-docos-3( E )-enoic acid) from an Indonesian sponge, Plakinastrella sp. inhibits Topoisomerase II with an IC 50 of 0.1 μg/mL.

Tetrahedron | 1995

Two Cytotoxic 3,6-Epidioxy Fatty Acids from an Indonesian Sponge, Plakortis sp. 1

Toshio Ichiba; Paul J. Scheuer; Michelle Kelly-Borges

Abstract Two 3,6-epidioxy fatty acids, manadic acids A ( 8 ) and B ( 9 ), have been isolated from an undescribed species of a sponge, Plakortis sp., collected in Indonesia. Their structures and absolute configurations have been determined. Both compounds are moderately active against various antitumor cell lines.

Tetrahedron | 1994

HAPAIOSIDE : A 19-NORPREGNANE GLYCOSIDE FROM THE SPONGE CRIBROCHALINA OLEMDA

Bryan K.S. Yeung; Mark T. Hamann; Paul J. Scheuer; Michelle Kelly-Borges

Abstract A 4-hydroxy-6-oxopregnane-3-glycoside with an aromatic ring A was isolated from a Pohnpei sponge, Cribrochalina olemda. The sugar is a 6′-deoxy-L-β-altropyranose-4′-acetate.

Tetrahedron Letters | 1994

Pokepola ester: A phosphate diester from a Maui sponge

Raju S. Kalidindi; Wesley Y. Yoshida; Jorge A. Palermo; Paul J. Scheuer; Michelle Kelly-Borges

Abstract Pokepola ester (1), a phosphate diester of mixed biogenetic origin was isolated from a Maui sponge, Spongia oceania. It showed mild anti HIV activity.
