In 2012, the Open Access Movement to scientific information celebrated ten years of existence. The period, which represents the first stage of consolidation of the movement, has been analyzed to allow the planning of new phases. With the purpose of providing tools and contributing to these discussions, the article addresses the historical aspects of the international and regional constitution of Open Access Movement. The approach was developed from a descriptive temporal narrative of the main events and initiatives identified in the scientific literature on the subject. The elements discussed in the present study work were organized under two parameters. The first refers to a temporal perspective, defined from the publication of Budapest Open Access Initiative. The second is related to brief discussion of the participation of Latin America. As result, we present a timeline of open access in the world and in Latin America, showing the main aspects covered in the study. The goal of the study is achieved by the proposed systematization as we analyze the open access initiatives in Latin America and establish how they influenced and were influenced by other regions of the world. Keywords: Latin America. Open access. Scientific information.

This book analyzes the characteristics of the digital repositories in Latin America for the development of open access. In Latin America, the development of these systems by teaching and research institutions, the so-called institutional repositories, are appointed by scientific literature as a promising area for the fulfillment of the purposes of open access, due to the public source of research funding in the region and also to the very features of institutional repositories. For the development of this study it was conducted a systematic literature review, using literature and documents from Google Scholar and Web of Knowledge databases in order to the elaboration of a theoretical lens about the elements that define open access and features institutional repositories. As a result of this step were defined five selection criteria and eight dimensions of analysis for institutional repositories. The elements were used for the selection, mapping and characterization of 84 institutional repositories, that were selected in the a set of 289 digital repositories. The survey results showed that Latin America has significant advances in the development of institutional repositories, as compared to other regions, but it is still very incipient in programs and policies to promote open access by funding institutions of scientific knowledge production in the region.

The communication of research data – it involves aspects of production, sharing and reuse of research data – has been intensified in the apex of the emergence open science´s paradigm. In this context, several principles and recommendations emerged to guide the discussions and the practices. The aim of this paper is to propose fundamental set of principles and recommendations for the research data communication through the identification and analysis of the historical development of practices and policies that have guided the discussion and initiatives about research data communication. It was adopted as methods literature and documentary research. The first was the historical narrative of events, based on a timeline. The second was the comparative analysis of principles and statements identified by literature and document research. Among the results, it was possible to propose a set of principles and basic recommendations for communication research data.
