A Comparison of a New Method Mediated by Molybdenum Complex with an Enzymatic Method for Bleaching Flax Fibers

In the last years, the interest in bast fibers for textile products has been growing in line with the necessity for new added-value products. The attention has focused on the research in developing of different methods of processing natural fibers. The main goal of this work was to compare two methods for fiber’s degumming. One method used the molybdenum complex for degumming and the other is an enzymatic one with laccase as catalyst. The physical–mechanical parameters were in the same range for both methods, while the lignin contt was smaller for the molybdenum complex—peroxide process than for the treatment with laccase—peroxide system. The characterization using FT-IR spectroscopy and thermogravimetry also suggest that the treatments with molybdenum complex degraded more lignin than the enzymatic treatments. The crystallinity index of bleached fibers using the system molybdenum complex was higher than for the fibers treated with enzymes while the degrees of whiteness were somehow lower but in the acceptable range.

Ultrasound effect on dyeing wool fibers with two anthraquinone dyes

Andreia Sanislav; Magdalena Fogorasi; Michaela Dina Stanescu; Simona Gabriela Muntean; Mihaela Dochia

Environmental and quality demands generate new approaches for finding better solutions in textile dyeing. A less polluting and more ecological procedure has been investigated, on this purpose. This study reveals the influence of ultrasounds (US) on wool dyeing. It presents comparatively the dyeing results for two frequently used anthraquinone dyes, one reactive (CI Reactive Blue 19) and the other acid (CI Acid Blue 62), applied on wool fibers. The comparison between the classic and the US dyeing procedures was performed in terms of: dye bath exhaustion, wash fastness and the color analysis. The dye aggregation was evidenced through the visible spectra, and the effect of US in this respect, was underlined, especially for the acid dye case. For the reactive dye, the higher bath exhaustion in US dyeing conditions was explained.

Comparative Study on Treatment Bioscouring Optimization with and without Ultrasound for 50 % of Cotton + 50 % of Flax Materials

Monica Pustianu; Mihaela Dochia; Simona Gavrilaş; Daniel Tomescu

The research presents a comparative study regarding the optimization of two bioscouring treatments applied on 50 % of flax+50 % of cotton blended material in presence and absence of the ultrasound energy The treatments optimization was made by using a central, rotatable second order compound program with two independent variables: enzyme concentration and treatment time. The data obtained after determination of the weight loss of the treated samples fabrics were used afterwards for the bioscouring treatments optimization.
