In this letter, the novel analytical expressions for the probability density function, cumulative distribution function and moment generating function of the signal-to-interference ratio are derived for the interference-limited system operating over the extended generalized-K (EGK) fading channel. Since the EGK distribution can be used for modeling a great variety of fading channels, the new derived formulae have high level of generality and can be used for estimating the effects of interference and different composite fading channel conditions on system performance. The proposed analytical analysis is complemented by various outage performance results and confirmed by simulations.

This paper studies the performance of switch and stay combining (SSC) diversity in the presence of co-channel interference over correlated Weibull fading channels. SSC diversity based on signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) is a low-complexity and a very efficient technique that reduces fading and co-channel interference influence. New closed-form expressions for the probability density function and cumulative distribution function of the output SIRs are derived. These formulas are used in a detailed analysis of the average output SIR and outage probability. The influence of fading severity and correlation coefficient on the optimum switching threshold and system performance is investigated. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to verify obtained theoretical results and determine average bit error rate in detecting binary phase-shift keying (BPSK), differential BPSK and quadrature amplitude modulation signals. Performance of Dual-Hop Relaying Over Shadowed Ricean Fading Channels In this paper, an analytical approach for evaluating performance of dual-hop cooperative link over shadowed Ricean fading channels is presented. New lower bound expressions for the probability density function (PDF), cumulative distribution function (CDF) and average bit error probability (ABEP) for system with channel state information (CSI) relay are derived. Some numerical results are presented to show behavior of performance gain for the proposed system. Analytical exact and lower bound expression for the outage probability (OP) of CSI assisted relay are obtained and required numerical results are compared.

Abstract We study the performance of dual branch switch and stay combining (SSC) diversity receivers operating over correlated Rician fading channels, in the presence of correlated Rayleigh distributed cochannel interference (CCI). Fast convergent infinite series representations for both the joint probability density function (PDF) of the SSC input signal-to-interference ratios (SIRs) and the PDF of the SSC output SIR are derived. The last one is applied to semi-analytically study the average bit error probability (ABEP) of differential binary phase shift keying (DBPSK). Furthermore, the optimum switching threshold in the sense of minimum ABEP is obtained numerically and the effects of fading severity and branch correlation on both ABEP and optimum switching threshold are investigated. Numerical and simulation results are presented to support the mathematical analysis.

In this paper an approach to the performance analysis of signal-to-interference (SIR) based selection combining (SC) operating over the Rayleigh fading channels experiencing an arbitrary number of multiple, Rayleigh co-channel interferers is presented. We have presented a general analysis of multibranch SC where each branch experiences an arbitrary number of multiple equal power co-channel interferers. Useful closed form expressions are derived for the probability density function (PDF) and cumulative distribution function (CDF) at the output of the combiner. Also an outage analysis is performed in order to show the effects of the number of multiple interferers, diversity order and input SIR unbalance to the system performances.

This paper studies the performances of a dual-branch switched-and-stay combining (SSC) diversity receiver, operating over correlated fading in the presence of cochannel interference (CCI). Very useful, novel, infinite series expressions are obtained for the output signal to interference ratios (SIRs) probability density function (PDF) and cumulative distribution function (CDF). The performance analysis is based on an outage probability (OP) and an average bit error probability (ASEP) criteria. ASEP is efficiently evaluated for modulation schemes such as noncoherent frequency-shift keying (NCFSK) and binary differentially phase-shift keying (BDPSK). The effects of various parameters, such as input SIR unbalance, the level of correlation between received desired signals and interferences, nonlinearity of the environment, and fading severity on systems performances are graphically presented and analyzed.

In this paper, the switched nonuniform polar quantization is asymptotically analyzed for the case when the power of an input signal varies in a wide range. We observed two compression functions: logarithmic and optimum. For the suggested quantizer model we optimized the granular distortion in order to obtain the manner of the total distribution of points, i.e., we evaluated the expressions for the amplitude-level number and the phase-level number for on one amplitude level. In addition, we found the expression for granular distortion, which we used to estimate the suggested model. We compared the numerically obtained results with the G711 and G712 standards, and on these bases, we derived conclusions about the possibilities of this switched quantization application in speech processing. The suggested quantizer can be used for data compression where the saving can reach 1.5 bits/sample. This circumstance means that the technique that we presented in the paper can be applied for voice transmission over the Internet (VoIP) and in public switched telephone networks (PSTN).

This paper studies the outage performance of a dual-hop amplify-and-forward (AF) relay fading channel in an interference-limited environment. The relay and destination nodes are corrupted by multiple co-channel Rayleigh interferences. New exact closed-form expressions for the outage probability for channel-state-information (CSI)—assisted relay, in which gain is dependent on previous hop CSI and interference, are derived. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to verify the obtained theoretical results. For the cases where the number of interferers at the relay and the destination node is equal, we derive novel expressions for outage probability upper and lower bounds.
