Performance analyses of selection combining diversity receiver over α–μ fading channels in the presence of co-channel interference

Stefan Panic; Mihajlo Stefanovic; Aleksandar V. Mosić

An approach to the performance analyses of dual selection combining (SC) diversity receiver over correlated alpha - mu fading channels with the arbitrary parameters is presented. Fading between the diversity branches and interferers is correlated and distributed with alpha - mu distribution. Infinite series expressions are obtained for the output SIRs probability density function (PDF), cumulative distribution function (CDF) and an important measure of the systems performances, the outage probability (OP). An average error probability is efficiently evaluated for coherent and non-coherent modulation schemes such as coherent frequency-shift keying (CFSK), coherent phase-shift keying (CPSK), binary frequency-shift keying (BFSK) and binary differentially phase-shift keying (BDPSK). Numerical results are presented to show the effects of various parameters such as fading severity, input SIR unbalance and the level of correlation between received desired signals and interferences on systems performances.

Performance of interference-limited dual-hop non-regenerative relays over rayleigh fading channels

A.M. Cvetkovic; G.T. Ðordevic; Mihajlo Stefanovic

This paper studies the performance of a dual-hop non-regenerative relay fading channel in an interference-limited environment. The relay and destination nodes are corrupted by co-channel interference. New closed-form expressions for the probability density function and cumulative distribution function of the output signal-to-interference ratio are derived. Analytical expressions for the outage probability of both the channel-state-information-assisted relay and the fixed-gain relay channels are derived and the obtained numerical results are compared. Monte-Carlo simulations are performed to verify the obtained theoretical results.

In this article, infinite-series expressions for the second-order statistical measures of a macro-diversity structure operating over the Gamma shadowed κ-μ fading channels are provided. We have focused on MRC (maximal ratio combining) combining at each base station (micro-diversity), and selection combining (SC), based on output signal power values, between base stations (macro-diversity). Some numerical results of the systems level crossing rate and average fading duration are presented, in order to examine the influence of various parameters such as shadowing and fading severity and number of the diversity branches at the micro-combiners on concerned quantities.

Performance Analysis of System with Micro- and Macrodiversity Reception in Correlated Gamma Shadowed Rician Fading Channels

Nikola M. Sekulovic; Mihajlo Stefanovic

In this paper, the performance of wireless system employing microdiversity to mitigate the effects of short-term fading and macrodiversity to reduce long-term fading (shadowing) effects is studied. The system model assumes implementation of maximal-ratio combining (MRC) at the microlevel and selection combining (SC) at the macrolevel. The received signal envelope follows a Rician distribution and it also suffers gamma shadowing. Novel expressions for the probability density function (PDF), cumulative distribution function (CDF), and moment-generating function (MGF) of the output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) are obtained. Several useful performance criteria, such as the moments of the output SNR and outage probability are analytically derived. Moreover, the average bit error probability (ABEP) for noncoherent binary differential phase-shift keying (BDPSK) is calculated using the MGF based approach while the ABEP for coherent binary phase-shift keying (BPSK) is studied by averaging the conditional bit error probability over the PDF. Numerical results are graphically presented to show the effects of various system parameters to the system performance, as well as the enhancement due to use of the combination of micro- and macrodiversity. Some of numerical results are complemented by equivalent computer simulated results which validate the accuracy of the proposed analysis. The agreement between the Rician-gamma and Rician-lognormal fading model is also established.

Aleksandra S. Panajotovic; Mihajlo Stefanovic; D Lj Drača; Nikola M. Sekulovic

We present an infinite-series representation for the average level crossing rate (LCR) of dual selection combining (SC) receivers, operating over correlated Rician fading channels, in the presence of Rayleigh cochannel interference (CCI). Numerical results are presented to illustrate the proposed mathematical analysis and to point out the effect of the branch correlation and fading severity on the average LCR.

Design of signal constellations for Gaussian channel by using iterative polar quantization

Zoran H. Peric; Ivan B. Djordjevic; Srdjan M. Bogosavljevic; Mihajlo Stefanovic

The new iterative nonuniform polar quantization method is presented in this paper. The decision levels and the reconstruction levels are determined by this iterative method as well as the number of points on levels. The quantization mean-squared error (MSE) is used as the criterion for optimization. We also present the exact method for the error probability determination per signal constellation symbol, which is obtained by this quantization method. The error probability for nonequiprobable symbols transmission through a channel with the additive Gaussian noise is also computed.

Petar Spalevic; Stefan Panic; Ćemal B. Dolićanin; Mihajlo Stefanovic; Aleksandar V. Mosić

This paper studies the performances of a dual-branch switched-and-stay combining (SSC) diversity receiver, operating over correlated fading in the presence of cochannel interference (CCI). Very useful, novel, infinite series expressions are obtained for the output signal to interference ratios (SIRs) probability density function (PDF) and cumulative distribution function (CDF). The performance analysis is based on an outage probability (OP) and an average bit error probability (ASEP) criteria. ASEP is efficiently evaluated for modulation schemes such as noncoherent frequency-shift keying (NCFSK) and binary differentially phase-shift keying (BDPSK). The effects of various parameters, such as input SIR unbalance, the level of correlation between received desired signals and interferences, nonlinearity of the environment, and fading severity on systems performances are graphically presented and analyzed.

Performance analysis of selection diversity over exponentially correlated α– µ fading environment

Zoran Popovic; Stefan Panic; Jelena A. Anastasov; Petar Spalevic; Mihajlo Stefanovic

An approach to the performance analysis of multibranch selection combiner (SC) receiver operating over fading channels is presented. High level of generality for the proposed analysis is achieved by considering correlated α– µ fading environment. The effect of correlation is studied by assuming exponential correlation model of the signals in each diversity branch. The whole analysis is observed in the interference-limited fading environments (SIR-based diversity system is assumed). The important performance measures are considered. Closed form of formulae for the output SIRs probability density function and cumulative distribution function are derived. In order to check the accuracy of the complete proposed formulation, some numerical results are presented. Copyright

Average Level Crossing Rate of Dual Selection Diversity over Correlated Unbalanced Nakagami-m Fading Channels in the Presence of Cochannel Interference

Aleksandra S. Panajotovic; Nikola M. Sekulovic; Mihajlo Stefanovic; Dragan Lj. Draca

A dual selection combining (SC) receiver which applies desired signal power algorithm and operates over correlated, but not necessary identically distributed Nakagami-m fading channels in the presence of cochannel interference (CCI) is considered in this letter. Actually, a novel infinite-series expression for the average level crossing rate (LCR) at the output of that SC receiver is obtained. Numerical results are presented to examine the effects of the fading severity, input signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) unbalance and the level of branch correlation on the average LCR, as well as the correctness of proposed analytical formulation.
