Decays of the New and Old Hadrons. I On the Universality of Baryons and Mesons

Masako Bando; Hiroshi Sugimoto; Mihoko Toya

The decay phenomena of the new and old hadrons are investigated on the basis of the relativistic quark model. It is shown that the quark transition matrix elements in the mesons exactly coincide with those in the baryons. This fact facilitates us to predict the photo-decays of the L=1 mesons, whose experiment is now in progress at Fermilab. Our analysis of the decays of the new mesons suggests the possibility of the simple SU(4) breaking pattern, that is, the SU(4) breaking factors are ascribed to the current-hadron couplings such as rv or f., in addition to the standard mass breaking, keeping the symmetric property of the strong vertices.

Decays of Baryon Resonances in a New Hadron Scheme

Mihoko Toya

The pion~en1ISSlon decays of baryon resonances of L=O, 1, 2 are investjgated phen(nneM ndogically on the basis of a new composite model of haclrons. It is conjectured that the transition between quarks of the same natural parity dominates the various decay modes of hadrons. The predictions of decay widths are in agreement with the experimental data and the phases of resonant amplitudes choose the anti-SU(G) w like sign which is consi:;lent with the sign determined by the photo-couplings except for the resonant sign of F15(1688) in ;-:S->;-:J. The angular momentum sum rule is satisfied without exception.
