One of the most critical issues in large-scale software development and maintenance is the rapidly growing size and complexity of software systems. As a result of this rapid growth there is a need to better understand the relationships between the different parts of a large software system. In this paper we present a reverse engineering framework called Columbus that is able to analyze large C++ projects, and a schema for C++ that prescribes the form of the extracted data. The flexible architecture of the Columbus system with a powerful C++ analyzer and schema makes it a versatile and readily extendible toolset for reverse engineering. This tool is free for scientific and educational purposes and we fervently hope that it will assist academic persons in any research work related to C++ re- and reverse engineering.

Following from privacy requirements, new architecture solutions for personalized services are expected to emerge. This paper proposes a conceptual framework for designing privacy enabling service architectures, with a special emphasis on the mobile domain. The treatment of the subject is based on the principle of separating identity and profile information. Basic building blocks such as Identity Broker, Profile Broker, Contract Broker and Authenticator are identified and then put together in different ways resulting in variations on the architecture theme.

In this paper, we describe the development and experiences with a mobile group communication application, mCell, that runs on a mobile phone. We present the underlying design implications, the application implementation, and a user study, where three groups used the application for one month. The findings of the user study reveal general user experiences with the application and show different patterns of usage depending on the social setting of the group, and how the preferred features vary accordingly.

Aspects of delivering personalized local services are briefly investigated, such as content delivery, authentication, attribute exchange, payment and user privacy. The main emphasis is on services that reach the users from their physical vicinity via their mobile handsets. The proposed solutions are demonstrated by showcasing a local service at an imaginary music store, with two alternatives of content presentation: XHTML browsing and Java MIDlet.
international conference on distributed computing systems | 2002
Katja Nykänen; Mikko Tarkiainen
Nokia is a globally distributed company. It has many sites in Europe, the Americas and Asia. This means that in many cases also the development teams are distributed. This paper explains the problems that exist among the distributed teams concerning the selected target case and introduces the objectives and the requirements that Nokia had concerning the project MOTION. Also, the user story and the process for evaluating the implementation are discussed.
