Stability problems of steel structures

Miklós Iványi; Miroslav Škaloud

This volume strives to give complete information about the main aspect of the stability behaviour of steel structures and their members. In following this objective, the volume presents a complete scientific background (profiting from the fact that the authors of the individual parts of the publication have personally been very active in the corresponding field of research for an extended period of time now), but also establishes recommendations, procedures and formulae for practical design. The significance of the volume may be seen in its challenging current concepts of stability analysis, encouraging progress in the field and thereby establishing an advanced basis for more reliable and economical design.

Ultimate load behaviour of steel-framed structures

Miklós Iványi

Abstract Experimental and theoretical investigations were shown, which permitted the analysis of plastic deformation capacity of frames with regard to the interaction of strength and stability phenomena, including the effect of plate (local) buckling on the response of the whole structure.

Steel Frame Stability

Miklós Iványi

Collapse of frames is related not to a bifurcational phenomenon, but rather to divergence of equilibrium. The up-to-date stability analysis specifications are based on the analysis of so-called imperfect models.

Prediction of Ultimate Load of Steel Frames with Semi-Rigid Connections

Miklós Iványi

The beams, columns, and beam-columns do not occur in isolation, but many of them joined together make up a structural frame. This frame is the skeleton which supports the loads which the structure is called upon to support.

Steel Plated Structures

Miklós Iványi; Miroslav Škaloud

This volume strives to give comprehensive information about the main aspects of the behaviour and limit states of steel plated structures. In following this objective, the volume presents a complete scientific background (profiting from the fact that the authors of the individual parts of the publication have personally been very active in the corresponding fields of research for an extended period of time), but also establishes design recommendations, procedures and formulae. The significance of the volume may be seen in its challenging current concepts of the analysis of steel plated structures, encouraging progress in the field, and thereby establishing an advanced basis for a more reliable and economical design.

Local buckling and flexural-torsional buckling with regard to residual stresses

Miklós Iványi; László Hegedüs

Abstract The complex of strain-hardening of structural steel, residual stresses caused by technology, interaction of plate and lateral-torsional buckling significantly affects the stability conditions of beam-columns. Theoretical results, obtained by the energy method relying on the theory of plastic deformation, are compared with test results.
