Pre-school facilities are considered to be specific buildings in the matter of construction and renovation. Space-planning features in design for pre-school facilities create special conditions for solar power use to ensure heat and power supply. The article deals with estimation of incoming solar power in reference to the surfaces oriented in different cardinal directions under the weather conditions of the city of Saint-Petersburg (Russia) and the city of Nish (Serbia). A model of how to ensure power supply for a kindergarten of the city of Nish is presented on the basis of the calculations analysis. The cases with regard to completed projects designed to use renewable energy sources in order to supply pre-school facilities with energy in other weather conditions are given herein.

Changes in the existing urban structures that result in obsolescence and abandonment of buildings, open up the opportunities for an alternative use of the existing building fund which would be in line with the current needs and aspirations of today. Conversion of obsolete buildings to residential buildings might be an optimal solution for the social and demographic changes that continuously influence and intensify the demands for new housing. The paper points out the quality of this approach and explores the extent to which conversion of obsolete buildings for residential uses may be a valid tool in sustainable development strategy.

The problem researched in this paper refers to the promotion of the evaluation system in the designing of the pre-school facilities, and the issue is approached from the psychological aspect, in order to investigate the potential for improvement of this kind of structures. In the paper, the systematization of the physical environment factors and their influence on the cognitive processes and the social behavior of children in the pre-school facilities. The conclusion is that the quality of architectonic design, that is, the quality of organization and materialization of the designed physical environment of the pre-school premises correlates with the positive developmental results of the children.

Existing European energy efficiency standards impose high requirements on yearly consumption of heat energy in buildings and on heat-protective qualities of cladding. One of the options of energy efficient buildings is the “passive house” with low energy consumption. As shown in this article, designs of “passive houses” have not always considered the requirements for preventing condensation in the cladding. Humidity conditions of the cladding of the “passive house” in the city Niš have been analyzed. It was found that for designing a heating system in the outer wall, with a specified outdoor air temperature, formation of condensation exists. To eliminate condensation we conceived vapor barrier layer technology from the inner surface of outer wall. Humidity conditions in the assembly of the vapor barrier layer have been calculated

Contemporary housing in the Republic of Serbia is significantly influenced by political and social changes, at the end of XX and the beginning of XXI century. Drastic increase of poverty, as a consequence of these changes, reflected on housing market. Reduction of apartment size, and lower construction quality were primary methods of reducing apartment cost. These cost reduction strategies induced numerous problems in the exploitation of apartments. In the last few years the attempts were made to regulate housing market by new legislation. This paper analyses compatibility of existing housing units, constructed in this period, with new Standard. The objective of the paper is to determine the extent of deviation of from new legislative in order to evaluate the need for the reconstruction as well as for potential correction of the Standard.

Abstract Viewed historically, for a thorough understanding of the development of pedagogical concepts it is necessary to study all important contextual elements that have contributed to the achievement of certain conditions under which educational work with students occurred, and to study all the qualitative components that lie at the essence of this pedagogical process. This paper examines the interdependence of pedagogical movements and classroom environment for the elementary education in the European historical context. The authors′ analysis of historical trends in the development of pedagogical ideas and movements has identified two influential currents, in which implications related to the origins and final form of the highlighted school architecture in Europe have been analyzed. The key finding of this study is that, given the different socio-cultural circumstances, the level of development of the classroom in Europe is conditioned primarily by the continuity and quality of perception of pedagogical movements, as related to the appropriate environment in which the pedagogical process is to be implemented.

After the announced first phase of the recorded material collecting and the information on the existing schools in the rural areas in the administrative are of the City of Nis, the data base on the schools in 68 villages was created. In this paper, the possible systematization models for the existing schools have been presented, and the criteria for the analysis and its evaluation in respect to the determined set of parameters have been defined. The conducted classifications make further research possible and gives the guidelines for the concrete action in the revitalization of the education and the village development.
