The Role of Education on Entrepreneurship in Lithuania

The present chapter examines the role of education on entrepreneurship dynamics. The contributors provide recommendations how to improve the entrepreneurship dynamics in Lithuania via entrepreneurship education. Effects of education are tackled via factors such as the percentage of entrepreneurs who are confident in their capabilities, the fear of failure, acknowledgement of good opportunities in the market, as well as effects of culture on the entrepreneurship dynamics from a more generic perspective. Effects of education on entrepreneurship are analysed via the triangulation method, which is based on the combination of scientific literature analysis, interpretation of quantitative and qualitative GEM results, and qualitative expert interviews. The conceptual model (“Matrix of Education Effects”) is developed to summarize education impacts on entrepreneurship and the main channels through which these impacts manifest. This chapter is relevant in today’s context of Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC), which undergo numerous education reforms and focus on business’ performance improvement, sustainability, and innovations.
