RFID Applications and Challenges

Ming-Shen Jian; Jain-Shing Wu

Radio Frequency identification (RFID) is the popular wireless induction system [1-7]. The same as the general bar code identification, each RFID tag in an RFID system is assumed that equips a unique ID (UID) itself. A standard RFID system is consisted of Tag, Reader, and Application. When an independent RFID tag approaches the RFID antenna, the induc‐ tion between RFID tag and antenna happens. The RFID antenna reads the information and content recorded in the tag. Then the information is translated into the computational data by the RFID reader. Due to the portable RFID tag and untouched data transmission, many local or small area wireless applications for track and trace based on RFID systems were proposed.

Cloud Based Evolution Algorithm with Feedback Control for Emergency Logistic

Ming-Shen Jian; Fu Jie Jhan; Han Chun Chang; Ta Yuan Chou; Jun-Hong Shen

This paper develops a parallel and distributed evolutionary algorithm based on the cloud computing environment and feedback control algorithm to help planners solve the emergency logistic problems. The cloud environment is emulated and used as various virtual machines with different types of evolution procedures. To yield both exploration and exploitation, two crossover processes are deployed on different virtual machines. In the process of crossover, local optimal solutions can be competed and evaluated to form new populations so that the search space can be expanded and the advantaged crossover procedures can be further adopted. The proposed feedback control algorithm based on the evaluation of evolution algorithm can interact and emphasize the process with better performance. According to proposed feedback algorithm, virtual machines with different on demand formatted crossover algorithms can be dynamically established and adopted. Taking the advantage of cloud computing environment and the proposed feedback control algorithm of evolution algorithm, planners can take less effort on deploying both computation power and storage space. Also, it can further applied in various complicated applications more practically.

On-demand flow regulated routing for ad-hoc wireless network

Ming-Shen Jian; Peng-Long Wu; Chung-Nan Lee

In this paper we present an on-demand flow regulated routing algorithm for ad-hoc wireless network(OFRA). OFRA consists of two parts: an intermediate node load evaluation process and a routing path selection process. The intermediate node load evaluate process evaluates the load efficiency of the intermediate nodes according to bandwidth and computing ability. The routing path selection process selects the routing path with lower flow and less number of intermediate nodes. OFRA can distribute routing paths more evenly. The simulation result shows that blocking percentage of routing path is lower and the total flow is more balanced.

Mobility corresponding location-aware information services based on embedded RFID platform

Ming-Shen Jian; Ta Yuan Chou; Shu Hui Hsu

In this paper, a Mobility Corresponding Location-Aware Information Services based on embedded RFID Platform that integrates the existed RFID systems and digital information content services server is proposed. According to users RFID tag, the platform accesses the remote digital content database and broadcasts the corresponding digital content related to the end-users personal requirements, locations, or historical user records. On the basis of the mobility prediction, the individual and diverse information services are seamlessly provided to each user. The real test and verification prove that the proposed platform can certainly reduce the construction cost of specific area service system deployment.

Neighbor-Index Method for Continuous Window Queries over Wireless Data Broadcast

Jun-Hong Shen; Ching Ta Lu; Ming-Shen Jian

A continuous window query is an important class of spatial queries for location-based services. It retrieves spatial objects in a fixed window region of every point on a line segment and indicates the valid segments of them. In this paper, we focus on continuous window queries in wireless data broadcast systems. Since the query result of the continuous window queries has the spatial locality, providing neighbor information of spatial objects can guide clients to efficiently retrieve related objects. Therefore, we propose a neighbor-index method to efficiently support the continuous window queries in wireless data broadcast systems. The proposed method interleaves the neighbor information between spatial objects to guide mobile clients to quickly retrieve the answered objects and save the power consumption of the mobile devices. Experimental results show that our method outperforms the distributed indexing.

Ming-Shen Jian; Jun-Hong Shen; Tien-Chi Huang; Yu-Chih Chen; Jun-Lin Chen

In this paper, the modular role player game-distance-learning system based on voice recognition for language learning in cloud is proposed. Each designed modular game content can be embedded into the learning game platform in cloud. By connecting to the external recognition resource, the pronouncing of learners can be recognized. Only when the pronouncing of the learner can be recognized as the keyword, the further game will be started. By designing different scenarios, different vocabularies or conversations can be added into the RPG game. The information about users in the individual game learning system can be stored in the cloud database. Then users can connect to the learning-game system via the Internet for continuous learning. By using the cloud platform, the users can connect to learning system anytime and anywhere. Furthermore, the students can learn advanced courses themselves by playing the advanced scenarios of the game-learning system without the assistance of a teacher.

An adaptive routing protocol selection algorithm corresponding to dynamic wireless network environment

Ming-Shen Jian; Ta-Yuan Chou; Chung-Nan Lee

In this paper, an adaptive algorithm for the dynamic network which can be affected by a variety of factors, is proposed. Because of resource utility rate and the dynamic state of the wireless network, different protocols have different costs. The proposed algorithm can select an appropriate protocol that has the lower cost. The simulation results show that the proposed adaptive algorithm is realizable and can save the resource of the cellular system or ad hoc network via considering the mobility of device in addition to power consumption and bandwidth

Improved rank-based multi-path routing in mobile ad-hoc networks

Ming-Shen Jian; Chienting Lin

In this paper, we proposed an improved rank-based multipath routing (ImRMR) algorithm for mobile ad hoc network. The algorithm utilizes rank-based fitness to select multiple routing paths for transmission. It takes into consideration not only bandwidth and computing efficiency, but also power consumption, number of intermediate nodes, and traffic load. Based upon various bottleneck resource states, available routing paths are classified into a Pareto set and selected to transmit data. The results of our simulation showed that when compared to the eminent dynamic source routing (DSR), ImRMR exhibited higher performance, notably in terms of throughput, power consumption, and traffic patterns

Ming-Shen Jian; Yi-Chi Fang; Rui-Wei Tong; Yu-Huei Lin

In this research, a Wireless Green Energy Power Transmission System Based on Assembly Method and Pivoting Antenna Module is proposed and consists of wireless charger and green energy transmission module. The green energy transmission module implements the dynamically constructed pivoting antenna with various green energy power sources. The pivoting antenna can be dynamically extended and connected. Based on the implementation of proposed system, the original power-load units can obtain the power wirelessly without using mercury battery or wired power line.

A Skewed Spatial Index for Continuous Window Queries in the Wireless Broadcast Environments

Jun-Hong Shen; Ching-Ta Lu; Ming-Shen Jian; Tien-Chi Huang

Location-based services (LBSs) via wireless data broadcast can provide a huge number of mobile clients for simultaneously accessing spatial data according to their current locations. A continuous window query is one of the important spatial queries for LBSs. It retrieves spatial objects in a fixed window region of every point on a line segment and indicates the valid segments of them. In this paper, we propose a skewed spatial index for continuous window queries considering skewed access patterns in the wireless broadcast environments.
