Collapse Pressure for the Pressure Vessel Consisting of a Cylindrical Shell, a Toroidal Shell and a Rigid Circular Plate

Minoru Hamada; Kazuyoshi Iida

The collapse pressure for a pressure vessel which consists of a cylindrical shell, a toroidal shell and a rigid circular plate, is studied in this paper by means of the method of limit analysis. The results of analysis are summarized in a diagram and an approximate design formula. In order to study the practical significance of the theoretical collapse pressure of a pressure vessel, experiments are carried out, and it is found that agrecment exists between the theoretical and the experimental results. Furthermore the obtained theoretical results are compared with those of elastic analysis which was made by one of the authors and other, and almost same tendencies are found in both analysis.

On the Strength of a Disk Spring

Minoru Hamada; Yasuyuki Seguchi

The differential equations which are concerned with the behavior of disk springs are solved numerically to examine the accuracy of the approximate solution using the principle of stationary potential energy. The solutions are obtained by modifying the iterative procedures which were proposed by H.B. Keller and E.L. Reiss. The approximate solution, which is essentially the same as the Wempners approximate solution but more compact by diminishing one geometric parameter, is found to be valid in practice, and the design formula based on the approximate solution is presented. Experiments are carried out and compared with the theoretical results.

Tomoya Ota; Minoru Hamada; Syoji Michida; Nobuhide Ishizuka; Goro Ohashi

Fundamental vibration of a bent beam, which has one bend and is clamped at both ends, is studied in this paper by means of the energy metheod. The frequency equation is obtained in a form of the determinant of five orders, and numerical calculations are carried out for the bent angle of 0°, 45°, 90 °, 135°, 180°and for the length ratio of 1, 3/5, 1/2, 1/3, 1/7.

An Approximate Solution for Large Deflection of A Circular Ring Plate

Minoru Hamada

The problem of large deflection of a circular ring plate clamped along the outer and inner edges is treated here by the approximate method which was proposed before by the writer, and the maximum deflection and each edge stress are calculated for the radius ratios 0, 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4. In order to study the accuracy of approximation, the case where the flexural rigidity vanishes is considered in detail and the experiment is carried out for the radius ratios 0 and 1/4.
