Application of titanium-alloy endodontic implants in conjunction with periradicular surgery

OBJECTIVEnTo evaluate the outcome of placement of titanium-alloy endodontic implants in conjunction with periradicular surgery.nnnSTUDY DESIGNnTwenty-four teeth were treated with endodontic implants with corresponding periradicular surgery by using SuperEBA cement (Harry J Bosworth Co, Skokie, Ill) as a sealer. The results of the endodontic implant surgery were evaluated clinically and radiographically from 2 to 4 years after treatment.nnnRESULTSnTwenty-two teeth were treated successfully, whereas 2 teeth were treated unsuccessfully, for a success rate of 92%.nnnCONCLUSIONSnTitanium-alloy endodontic implants in conjunction with periradicular surgery may provide good short-term results. Sealing between the endodontic implant and the dentin is likely an important factor for success.

Two Cases of Distraction Osteogenesis in Lengthening Hypoplastic Mandible of Hemifacial Microsomia. Evaluation 3 Years after Distraction.

Mandibular lengthening by distraction osteogenesis was performed on two females (6 and 9 years old) with hemifacial microsomia to correct facial asymmetry. The follow up was done by cephalometric analysis for 3 years.The results were as follows:1) Three years after distraction, the morphological symmetry corrected by distraction had almost been maintained.2) However, a slight amount of deviation on affected side was noticed at the Menton.3) In lateral chepharogram, ∠SN-Pog did not changed for 3 years after distraction.4) Downward growth of the maxilla on the affected side was not observed. Open bite at lengthened side seemed to be closed by eruption of the permanent molars.

Malignant tumors metastasized to oral and maxillofacial regions from other organs; Report of two cases.

頭頸部以外に原発した悪性腫瘍が口腔領域に転移したものは比較的まれである。今回, 口腔領域に転移した悪性腫瘍の症例を2例経験したので報告した。症例1は左頬部の腫脹を主訴に当科来院した84歳の女性である。口腟内病変部の生検の結果は腺癌であった。患者は約10年以上前に左乳房腺癌の既往を有し, 病理組織学的検討などより, 乳癌の口腟内への転移と診断した。症例2は左頬部から顎下部にかけての腫脹と疼痛が主訴の71歳の男性である。臨床診断は下顎歯肉癌で, 生検の結果は大細胞癌であった。レントゲン, CT, 喀痰細胞診より肺の大細胞癌が疑われ, 肺癌の口腔内への転移と診断した。
