Experimental Study on Legibility of Bus Stop Information for Barrier-free Design

Mitsuhiko Kawakami; Takashi Yamaguchi

It is an important factor for bather-free design of the bus stop to promote legibility of letter information such as the timetables. In this study, the field survey was done on the actual conditions of the presentation at the bus stops in Kanazawa City. Considering these actual conditions the experimental study was carried out on visibility with visually handicapped and non-handicapped about conspicuousness of letters, which have there kinds of size and ten kinds of colors, and set on ten kinds of color sheet. Results are analyzed between visually handicapped and non-handicapped and proposed some imprecations about bather-free design thoughts for letter information of the bus stop.

Effect of road improvement on traffic calming of narrow urban streets were studied in Kanazawa City. The improvement types were physical arrangement which meant a change of cross or vertical section of a road, image arrangement which meant only a change of pavement material, and nonarrangement types. These types were compared by analyzing speed of vehicles in various conditions of traffic environment. As a result, some traffic environment indices which had relation with speed of vehicles on a nonarrangement type had different effects on the two arrangement types.

In this study, for the purpose of traffic calming, experimental road arrangements using two types of chicanes were done in Kanazawa City and effects of traffic environment were surveyed. As a result, chicanes have a certain effect of speed control of vehicles, however, traffic safety consciousness of pedestrians were not improved because of a shortage of spaces for pedestrians. It. is important for traffic calming in a residential area that traffic regulations are applied and that methods and tools for experimental arrangement are improved.

In recent years they study on Transportation Demand Management not only for commuting but alsoin scenic areas. In Kanazawa city Park and Bus-Ride System is carried out in a succession of holiday begining of May.Introducing this system make modify traffic congestion and reduce travel time. We studied on providing traffic information for increasing to Park and Bus-Ride System user in scenic area, especially we paid attention to the method of providing information, type of information and the object of providing. We analized the relation between the user generic character and using this system using by cross tabulation and quantification theory II.
