Centauro- and anti-Centauro-type events.

Mladen Martinis; Vesna Mikuta-Martinis; A. Švarc; J. Črnugelj

Assuming that leading particles in high-energy hadronic and nuclear collisions become sources of a classical pion field, we show that the direct production of pions favors Centauro (mainly charged) events and that the production of pions through the \ensuremath{\rho}-type channel favors anti-Centauro (mainly neutral) events. We also observe a strong negative neutral-charged correlation in both cases.

Spectral Statistics of RR Intervals in ECG

Mladen Martinis; Vesna Mikuta-Martinis; Andrea Knežević; Josip Crnugelj

The statistical properties (fluctuations) of heartbeat intervals (RR intervals) in ECG are studied and compared with the predictions of Random Matrix Theory (RMT). It is found that heartbeat intervals only locally exhibitthe fluctuation patterns (universality) predicted by the RMT. This finding shows that heartbeat dynamics is of the mixed type where regular and irregular (chaotic) regimes coexist and the Berry-Robnik theory can be applied. It is also observed that the distribution of heartbeat intervals is well described by the one-parameter Brody distribution. The parameter β of the Brody distribution is seen to be connected with the dynamical state of the heart.

(MULTI)FRACTALITY OF PHYSIOLOGICAL TIME-SERIES

Andrea Knežević; Mladen Martinis

This paper contains the application of fractal concept in analyzing heartbeat (RR interval) fluctuations measured under controlled physical activity for subjects with stable angina pectoris (SAP). Results that illustrate the separation ability of the nonlinear methods, such as the Hurst R/S method, the detrended fluctuation analysis, DFA, and the method of G-moments, in distinguishing healthy from SAP subjects in scaling parameter space are presented.

Charge and Isospin Fluctuations in High Energy pp-Collisions

Mladen Martinis; Vesna Mikuta-Martinis

Charge and isospin event-by-event fluctuations in high-energy pp-collisions are predicted within the Unitary Eikonal Model, in particular the fluctuation patterns of the ratios of charged-to-charged and neutral-to-charged pions. These fluctuations are found to be sensitive to the presence of unstable resonances, such as ρ and ω mesons. We predict that the charge-fluctuation observable DUEM should be restricted to the interval 8/3 ≤ DUEM ≤ 4 depending on the ρ/π production ratio. Also, the isospin fluctuations of the DCC-type of the ratio of neutral-to-charged pions are suppressed if pions are produced together with ρ mesons.
