Viscous dissipation effect on mixed convection flow of a micropolar fluid over an exponentially stretching sheet

Mohamed Abd El-Aziz

Micropolar boundary-layer flow and heat transfer characteristics associated with a heated exponential stretching continuous sheet being cooled by a mixed convection flow are examined. The relevant heat transfer mechanisms are of interest in a wide variety of practical applications such as hot rolling, continuous casting, extrusion, and drawing. The wall temperature and stretching velocity are assumed to vary according to specific exponential forms. The contributions of buoyancy along with viscous dissipation on the convective transport in the boundary-layer region is analyzed in the opposing and assisting flow situations. Local similarity solutions are obtained for the boundary-layer equations governing the problem. A parametric study of the mixed convection parameter ξ, the micropolar parameter Δ, the Eckert number Ec, the parameter of temperature distribution n, and Prandtl number Pr is conducted and a representative set of numerical results for the velocity, angular velocity, temperature profiles, loca...

Flow and heat transfer over an unsteady stretching surface with Hall effect

Mohamed Abd El-Aziz

The present investigation is concerned with the effect of Hall currents on the flow and heat transfer of an electrically conducting fluid over an unsteady stretching surface in presence of a strong magnetic field. The induced magnetic field is neglected while the electron-atom collision frequency is assumed to be relatively high, so that the Hall effect is assumed to exist. The incorrect similarity transformation of Elbashbeshy and Bazid (Heat Mass Transfer 41:1–4, 2004). is corrected and a physically realistic distribution of the velocity and temperature is obtained. Using a similarity transformation the governing time dependent boundary layer equations for momentum and thermal energy are reduced to a set of coupled ordinary differential equations which are then solved numerically by the shooting method. Effects of the magnetic field, M , Hall parameter, m, and the unsteadiness parameter, S, on the velocity and temperature profiles as well as the local skin friction coefficients and the heat transfer rate are shown graphically.

UNSTEADY FLUID AND HEAT FLOW INDUCED BY A STRETCHING SHEET WITH MASS TRANSFER AND CHEMICAL REACTION

Mohamed Abd El-Aziz

The effect of chemical reaction on the flow, heat, and mass transfer within a viscous fluid on an unsteady stretching sheet is examined. The stretching rate, temperature and concentration of the sheet, and the chemical reaction rate are assumed to vary with time. The time-dependent boundary layer equations governing the flow are reduced through a convenient similarity transformation to a set of ordinary differential equations, which are numerically solved by applying the fourth-order Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg scheme with the shooting technique. Results for the velocity, temperature, and concentration distributions as well as the wall temperature and concentration gradients are presented graphically for various values of the unsteadiness parameter A, Prandtl number Pr, Schmidt number Sc, and chemical reaction parameter γ.

Temperature dependent viscosity and thermal conductivity effects on combined heat and mass transfer in MHD three-dimensional flow over a stretching surface with Ohmic heating

Mohamed Abd El-Aziz

An analysis has been carried out to obtain the flow, heat and mass transfer characteristics of a viscous electrically conducting fluid having temperature dependent viscosity and thermal conductivity past a continuously stretching surface, taking into account the effect of Ohmic heating. The flow is subjected to a uniform transverse magnetic field normal to the plate. The resulting governing three-dimensional equations are transformed using suitable three-dimensional transformations and then solved numerically by using fifth order Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg scheme with a modified version of the Newton–Raphson shooting method. Favorable comparisons with previously published work are obtained. The effects of the various parameters such as magnetic parameter M, the viscosity/temperature parameter θr, the thermal conductivity parameter S and the Eckert number Ec on the velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles, as well as the local skin-friction coefficient, local Nusselt number, and the local Sherwood number are presented graphically and in tabulated form.

Heat and Mass Transfer of Unsteady Hydromagnetic Free Convection Flow Through Porous Medium Past a Vertical Plate with Uniform Surface Heat Flux

Mohamed Abd El-Aziz; Aishah S. Yahya

Abstract Simultaneous effects of thermal and concentration diffusions in unsteady magnetohydrodynamic free convection flow past a moving plate maintained at constant heat flux and embedded in a viscous fluid saturated porous medium is presented. The transport model employed includes the effects of thermal radiation, heat sink, Soret and chemical reaction. The fluid is considered as a gray absorbing-emitting but non-scattering medium and the Rosseland approximation in the energy equations is used to describe the radiative heat flux for optically thick fluid. The dimensionless coupled linear partial differential equations are solved by using Laplace transform technique. Numerical results for the velocity, temperature, concentration as well as the skin friction coefficient and the rates of heat and mass transfer are shown graphically for different values of physical parameters involved.

Perturbation analysis of unsteady boundary layer slip flow and heat transfer of Casson fluid past a vertical permeable plate with Hall current

Mohamed Abd El-Aziz; Aishah S. Yahya

The current study focuses on the effect of Hall current on an unsteady free convection slip flow of a Casson fluid past an infinite vertical permeable plate in presence of variable suction. The non-linear coupled partial differential equations of the momentum and energy, which control the flow field, are converted into a system of ordinary differential equations using perturbation technique. The resulting equations are solved analytically with the objective of getting non-dimensional velocity and temperature fields. The study has also presented graphically the velocity and temperature profiles for different values of the parameters entering into the problem. Skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number which are of physical interest are sorted out and presented in the form of graphics.

Hydromagnetic Non-Darcian Free-Convective Flow of a Non-Newtonian Fluid with Temperature Jump

Ahmed M. Salem; Mohamed Abd El-Aziz

In the present study, the effect of viscous dissipation on magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) non-Darcian free-convection flow of a non-Newtonian power-law fluid past a vertical flat plate in a saturated porous medium with variable viscosity and temperature jump is considered. The fluid is permeated by a transverse magnetic field imposed perpendicularly to the plate on the assumption of a small magnetic Reynolds number. The fluid viscosity is assumed to vary as a reciprocal of linear function of temperature. The governing boundary layer equations and boundary conditions are cast into a dimensionless form and simplified by using a similarity transformation into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations and solved numerically. The effects of the governing parameters on the flow fields and heat transfer are shown in graphs and tabular form.
