This paper investigates and implement an automated measurement system for measuring power electronics research test rig based on single-phase matrix converter (SPMC) operating as a controlled rectifier. The output waveform of voltage and current are measured by an oscilloscope that is connected to a PC via a LabVIEW interface. The advantages of this method are its capability to process the data without the hassle of external aid and ability to record longer data length a limitation in normal oscilloscopes.

This paper present an alternative approach of High performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) online data storage method using XML for pharmaceutical research applications. XCS (XML for Chromatogram Storage) is presented, which is a module of AMCS (Automated Measurement for Chromatogram Storage), a management system designed for acquiring measured chromatography results by automated measurement and storage of multiple HPLC instruments on a centralized database. XCS is accessible through the Local Area Network (LAN) in a laboratory which is suitable for storing data. The XCS can produce XLS and CSV file formats, and can convert HPLC measurements into XML file format for centralized database storage; instead of using the proprietary software provided by the vendor or manufacturer which user can only save the measured file into the proprietary software format and unable to read it without the applications.

This paper presents a simple, consistent and reliable technique to identify detected partial discharges (PD) using an acoustic ultrasonic method. A new reliable algorithm named ‘Simple Partial Discharge Identifier’ (SPDI) is proposed to perform identification process of the detected ultrasonic signals of PD. Experimental works based on recommended practices were setup and the ultrasonic signals of the PD were recorded. The PD data is then employed as the reference data. The SPDI developed has been tested against commonly used models in Neural Network (NN). Results from the SPDI algorithm shows more reliable results compared to NN models results. Comparison made on the mean square error (MSE) results shows SPDI produces the desired outcome with lower MSE in 97.17% of trials. Low error of SPDI indicates a high reliability to be applied in the identification of PD.

This paper presents AMCOS (Automated Acquisition Chromatography System) and CONSYS, (Chromatogram Online System) a system to retrieve chromatography data in XML and XLS format. AMOCS and CONSYS are an alternative type of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Both systems were developed as a data interchange system with the advantage of overcoming the proprietary format and sharing problem. Commercially available proprietary software of LIMS allow user to only save the measurement data into files of their formats; and it is not readable and shared the chromatogram in other formats. AMCOS allows user to acquire the data of HPLC and store the measured data into the centralized database of CONSYS, which is a open source webbased system. CONSYS allows users to retrieve data without using proprietary software and producing both XML and XLS file formats, thus, can be viewed and shared by other CONSYS users. Data acquired are analyzed to determine the appropriate setting for sampling. The measured data are compared in order to justify based on reliability and trustworthy of the system.

The aim of this paper is to compare the experimental result of Single-phase Matrix Converter (SPMC) employing safe commutation strategy to the simulation of the SPMC using MATLAB/Simulink. A test rig of SPMC with safe commutation had been developed and its outputs (in terms of voltage and current) are monitored through an oscilloscope. One method is by recording the waveform on the oscilloscope onto a storage device and then processing it by propriety software. The method developed here is by connecting the oscilloscope to a PC via a LabVIEW interface. The advantages of the developed method are its ability to be processed without the hassle of external aid and ability to record a very much longer data length that is not limited to the capability of the storage of the oscilloscope.

This paper describe the effect of adding fillers into polymer for dielectric properties improvement. Two types of untreated phyllosilicate fillers which are MMT and FC selected to be used in order to strengthen HDPE, SIR and NR properties. The dielectric properties of three materials were observed from Tan Delta and breakdown strength. Based on the findings, the tested filler contribute a marginal improvement for certain electrical properties of insulation, i.e Tan Delta and breakdown voltage. The finding would give a good indicator on choosing the right filler to improve the performance of insulation properties.

A newly automated acquisition system had been developed to obtain chromatographic data from High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and is known as the Automated Acquisition for Chromatogram Storage System (AMCOS). AMCOS obtains the data, known as raw data, from HPLC through a DAQ board. Raw data has spikes and noise and to eliminate them, Savitzky-Golay and Median filter were employed. The HPLC has proprietary software, from which a set of chromatogram can be obtained. However, the format of the data does not permit user to do post-processing. This paper presents the comparison results of chromatograms using the four sets of data mentioned earlier. The first three show good correlation, having a less than 15% deviation. The raw data from HPLCs propriety software is unreliable as the data is not accurate even compare to the plot produced by the software. As such the deviation between this raw data and that from AMCOS varies unpredictably.
