This paper proposes the theory and application of a new designing method of the Fractional Order PID (FOPID) controller for boost converters. FOPID is a PID where the derivation and integration orders are of fractional order rather than integer. A FOPID is an extension to classic integer order PID controllers, that potentially promises better results. The method is based on the use of a Multi-Objective optimization evolutionary algorithm called Strength Pareto Evolutionary Algorithm (SPEA). Other controller methods cannot guarantee a good start-up response but the proposed method can provide an excellent start-up response besides desired dynamic response. The optimum fractional order PID coefficients for the desired control objectives are included and designers can implement each of them based on objective functions priority. A comparison between the optimum integer order PID controller and optimum fractional order PID controller is presented in the paper. The simulation and some experimental results prove the superiority of the fractional controllers over the integer controllers.

We describe in this paper an original system of localization for an autonomous mobile system. The main advantage of our system is that it only needs one active beacon for a complete localization of the mobile robot (2 Cartesian coordinates and the orientation). The receiver is made by an array of 6 large photodiodes (1 cm) fixed on the vehicle. The active beacon is a rotating laser, fixed on a wall of the manoeuvring area, with vertical line generation lens. This beacon includes an innovative laser modulation, based on a frequency variation which is a function of its absolute angular position. In the first part, we will describe the beacon and receiver functioning and explain the theoretical principle of this system. In the second part we will describe the results provided by our simulators with the aim of determining the optimum values of physical parameters and the limits of our system. In the final part we will explain our experimental system and analyse the results obtained in real conditions to suggest future interesting improvements and other utilization types.

This paper presents a robust voltage control intended for a photovoltaic system, the main objectives of the proposed control is to adapt with the parameter variations and load disturbances. Second order sliding mode controller, based on super twisting algorithm for DC-DC Buck converter is proposed. Applying SOSMC can improve the transient response of the system for a wide range of reference voltage or under large parameter variations and load disturbances. The robustness of the proposed control is tested by simulation in deferent operation condition such as parameters variation and load change. The experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed control.

Magnetic pulse welding (MPW), Crimping (MPC) or forming (MPF) are very promising technologies based on pulsed magnetic field using a magnetic pulse generator. This paper aims to study the current and temperature distribution produced by an intense pulsed current in a massive one turn coil. The study involves a 3D numerical simulation model of the coil in LS-DYNA® based on Maxwell equations and Finite Element Method (FEM). In order to validate this model, an experimental analysis using thermal camera is carried out to measure temperature distribution and good agreement is found.

The Linear parameter Varying and sliding mode observers are studied in this paper. Both the rotor resistance and speed variation are considered. The design of the considered observers is described in detail. In order to conduct a comparative study, the measurements used for both observers are assumed available on an equal basis. Equally, the same controllers parameters are used in simulation of a field oriented control scheme. In terms of variations of motor parameters, the estimations of observers are compared on a basis of errors estimation either during transient and steady state operations.

Currently, many techniques based on steady state analysis have been applied to diagnosis of the AC machines. In this paper, it will be shown how the Park vector analysis can improve inter-turn faults detection. While the fault detection become easy by using the thickness and the shape of the Park vector. The simulation and experimental results confirm largely the effectiveness of the proposed technique.
