Interfacial area and liquid side mass transfer coefficient in trickle bed reactors operating with organic liquids

Abstract Interfacial area and liquid-side mass transfer coefficients measured in a 5cm diameter trickle-bed reactor operating with organic liquids are presented d p ≤ 2.4 mm and cylindrical catalyst of size 0.9 mm × 5 mm. A few data concern also 5.9 and 6.4 mm Raschig rings. Gas and liquid flowrates a Mass transfer parameters have been determined by the chemical technique using the carbamation of the reactants cyclohexylamine, monoethanolamine or die results obtained at low gas-liquid interaction with low liquid flowrate are reported for the ionic aqueous systems CO 2 -NaOH and O 2 -Na 2 SO 3 . The variation of the mass transfer data, the gas pressure drop and the liquid holdup with the gas and liquid flowrates show that there exists a strong connection between these parameters. This has led to correlate the with the liquid-solid friction factor within a + 30% accuracy.

Integrated processes for desalination and salt production: A mini-review

The scarcity of fresh water due to the rapid growth of population and industrial activities has increased attention on desalination process as an alternative freshwater supply. In desalination process, a large volume of saline water is treated to produce freshwater while a concentrated brine is discharged back into the environment. The concentrated brine contains a high concentration of salt and also chemicals used during desalination operations. Due to environmental impacts arising from improper treatment of the brine and more rigorous regulations of the pollution control, many efforts have been devoted to minimize, treat, or reuse the rejected brine. One of the most promising alternatives for brine handling is reusing the brine which can reduce pollution, minimize waste volume, and recover valuable salt. Implementation of reverse flotation method to reduce reactive and non-reactive silica in bauxite ore from West Kalimantan

This paper reports a study that implements reverse flotation method to separate silica from West Kalimantan bauxite ores. The study is aimed to find the good process condition to obtain low-silica bauxite as the feed for the Bayer process. The experiments were carried out in a 1 L of flotation cell tank. Dodecylamine was used as the collector, starch as the depressant, and MIBC as the frother. The varied parameters were solid content to solution (15–30% w/w), and pH (6 – 10). The results of XRF of products show that in all reverse flotation experiments, the ratio of alumina to silica (Al/Si) are increased from 7 up to 14. The increase of solid percentage in the flotation gives a good result for Al/Si ratio as well as alumina and silica recovery in concentrate, with 30% w/w solid percentage to solution increases Al/Si ratio to 14.38, with silica recovery of 20%.
