Social influence, voluntariness, experience and the internet acceptance: An extension of technology acceptance model within a south‐Asian country context

Muhammad Sharif Abbasi; Fida Hussain Chandio; Abdul Fatah Soomro; Farwa Shah

Purpose – It has been argued that behavioural models of technology acceptance do not serve equally across cultures. This study aims to extend technology acceptance model (TAM) to suit in a developing country context. The model attempts to identify the relationship between social norms, management support and moderating factors voluntariness and experience.Design/methodology/approach – The study used a quantitative methodology to investigate the correlational paths. A cross‐sectional survey was completed by 504 academics working in higher educational institutes of Pakistan. The data were analysed using structural equation modelling (SEM) based on partial least squares (PLS) methods.Findings – The extended model achieved acceptable fit and most of the hypothesised paths were significant. Determinant perceived usefulness was an important construct of the internet acceptance, i.e. R2=34 per cent more than behavioural intention. Moderator experience diminished the impact of usefulness on behaviour usage.Practi...

This paper proposes an extended model of technology acceptance to understand potential users’ acceptance of online banking information systems (OBIS). The proposed model integrates key constructs from information systems and e-commerce acceptance research streams into the theoretical frame of the technology acceptance model. The model was tested on a sample of 353 Internet banking users in Pakistan. Using structural equation modelling with Analysis of Moment Structures software, data analysis showed considerable support for the extended hypothesised model. The results suggested that, in order of importance: perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEOU) and trust explained 45.7% of the variance in intended acceptance behaviour. Trust and technological self-efficacy (TSE) predicted 28.1% of the variance in PU. While in PEOU 21.8% of the variance was predicted by TSE, accessibility and terminology clarity. This study produced valuable insights into the factors that influence acceptance of OBIS by intended users and offers new ideas in understanding the acceptance of technology, especially in developing countries.

Online banking information systems acceptance: a structural equation modelling analysis

Extending research on the technology acceptance model TAM, this paper develops an extended model of TAM, which besides TAMs original predictors of perceived usefulness PU and perceived ease of use PEOU, includes trust TR as an additional belief factor to predict the behavioural intention BI to use an online banking information system OBIS. The model was tested on a sample of 353 internet users in Pakistan. Using structural equation modelling with AMOS data analysis showed that all the proposed paths were significant and the model explained 44.7% of the variance in BI. As per expectation, highly significant paths were observed between the additional new factor of trust and the PU, followed by PU and BI. These findings suggest that inclusion of an additional factor within TAM extends its capability and validity to predict the individuals acceptance behaviour towards OBIS.

SOCIAL, ORGANIZATIONAL, DEMOGRAPHY AND INDIVIDUALS’ TECHNOLOGY ACCEPTANCE BEHAVIOUR: A CONCEPTUAL MODEL

Muhammad Sharif Abbasi; Ali Tarhini; Mohammed Hassouna; Farwa Shah

The purpose of this article is to show how architects, planners and local authorities can create their own language interpretation and application of formal relations, at the same time; they developed their rehabilitation programs and promotional tourism, which transposes the analysis of the cultural landscape to the formal development of each program unit. The designation of cultural heritage results of the configuration analysis in History, Geography and Architecture in direct relation to the phenomena that arise. And tourism can contribute substantially to the financial maintenance of monuments, and also to help public support created for conservation policies. And all organizations such as World Heritage Cultural Landscape, ICCRDM and ICOMOS, help define the purpose of the question. The heritage depends on a phenomenological and sociological interpretation related then with History of Architecture, with the goal of understanding the cultural heritage. The main conclusion of this article is to emphasize that the factors which will determine the new heritage, and also influence Tourism, are defined by population, lifestyle and economy. Therefore they are important factors to achieve successfully interventions and programs, public or private. This paper addresses the problems of rural development in Portugal, especially in the north-east, and specifically in Bemposta, in Mogadouro. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the role that architecture has been playing in the rehabilitation and conversion of uses as an intervention tool in depopulated rural centers. It is in this context that the re-place term acquires greater importance, functioning as a set of approaches in rural areas, enabling the reuse of old structures, reusing the existing materiality and, thus, seeking a less invasive approach in the existing building - the ruin - respecting the past and its historical and social value. This article was elaborated from a wider research that coincided with my master’s thesis, held at Lusiada University of Porto, under the theme “[RE] PLACE: USANDO A MATERIA DO LUGAR - Bemposta”, guided by Professor Alexandra Maria Saraiva, in 2013|2014. The conversion uses emerges as a highly important instrument for the maintenance of the place memory. It is important to highlight the multi functionality of rural areas, recognizing the potential of their resources as strategic elements for promoting balanced and integrated territorial development. The proposed project translates into an intervention that focuses on the reuse of local architecture and targeted for tourism in rural areas (TER), along with the Cultural, interpretive and Housing Center of Bemposta (CCIHB).
