Comparison of Different Capacity Models for Traffic Circles

Pelin Çalişkanelli; Mustafa Özuysal; Serhan Tanyel; Nadir Yayla

Traffic circles have been used in many countries all over the world. Traffic circles can be defined as intersections where traffic circulates around a center island where priority is given to the vehicles entering from branches and are designed considering weaving movements as the basic goal. There are two most common capacity analysis methods for traffic circles: the method of critical gap acceptance and the method of regression analysis. This study explains the methods of gap acceptance and regression analysis. Ashworth and Field method is investigated and the applicability of these capacity models in Turkey is discussed. The obtained results have shown that both methodologies give satisfactory results; however, the existing methods should be improved (modified) considering conditions.

Toplu Ulaşımda Bekleme Süresini Etkileyen Faktörlerin İncelenmesi: Güvenilirlik, Yolcu Bilgilendirme Sistemi ve Fiziksel Koşullar

Gizem Doğan; Mustafa Özuysal

Investigation of the Factors Effecting Waiting Time in Public Transportation: Reliability, Passenger Information System and Physical Conditions Waiting time in public transportation is one of the most important dimensions of the level of service perceived by the passengers. Excessive waiting times may turn into a utility function component that change the mode and route choices of passengers, especially for the urban bus transportation operated under the effect of traffic conditions. In this study, the waiting times in urban bus systems are predicted by using the effects of reliability and passenger information systems, together with the physical conditions of bus routes and stops. As the result of the constituted linear multiple regression models, it is found that the existence of passenger information system and reliability have reducing effect on waiting Not: Bu yazı Yayın Kurulu’na 20.07.2015 günü ulaşmıştır. 30 Eylül 2017 gününe kadar tartışmaya açıktır. Besides, it is concluded that the passenger information systems are more efficient if they are implemented for the stops conveniently used according to their geometry and the ones used by the lines coming from the city center.

Object detection with BRIEF descriptors and locality sensitive matching for augmented reality

In this paper, an object detection approach suitable for mobile augmented reality is presented. The baseline approach is based on matching keypoint descriptors and verifying these matches with geometric constraints. The performance optimizations necessary for speeding up matching are detailed. It is also demonstrated that it is possible to increase the performance of the Locality Sensitive Hashing by exploiting approaches from the information retrieval field.
