Interface vibrational modes in layered crystals with stacking faults

Abstract We report the observation of a surprisingly strong ‘forbidden’ backscattering by interface modes in layered PbI 2 crystals with stacking faults. It has been shown that Raman scattering from interface phonons depends strongly on the sample quality.

RAMAN STUDY OF THE INTERPOLYTYPE PHASE TRANSITION IN THE LAYER PBI2 CRYSTALS

Abstract The Raman and reflection spectra have been measured on layer crystals PbI 2 at room and liquid helium temperatures, respectively. The occurrence of a laser induced 4H ⇒ 2H polytype transition in PbI 2 has been observed via the low-frequency shift of the shear-deformation mode in Raman spectrum and the appearance in reflection spectrum a new exciton transition.
