The clinical study of stereoroentogenography on gastrointestinal diseases (i) gastric diseases

Tatsuo Tobe; N. Toda; S. Saito; M. Ishimoto

The prolonged administration of the anticholinestrase agent, phthalimidomethyl o, o dimethlyphosphorodithioate (PMP), has produced esophageal achalasia-like dogs. The agent was administered intramuscularly three times a week for 38 weeks, the doses of each injectiom are ranged 0.5 mg~50 mg per kg of body weight. All 14 dogs which were used in this experiment showed some abnormal motility of the lower esophagus and the esophago-cardiac junction. On the X-ray examination some dogs showed the failure of the passage the barium suspension and the dilatation of the lower esophagus. On the intraluminal pressure recording examination dogs showed the abnormal simultaneous arises of the swallowing pressure wave. Some dogs showed vomitting, diarrhoea, bloody stool and huskiness. There were almost no changes on the histological examination except a slight swelling of the degenerative cells and pycnotic nuclei of the ganglion in the Auerbachs plexus.

Pneumoperitoneal tomography applied to abdominal swelling (II) Assessment of effect of radiotherapy on malignant tumor

M. Ishimoto; S. Saito; N. Toda; Tatsuo Tobe

The clinical course of the for ty patients of gastric cancer who are surviving over five years af ter gastrectomy were reviewed mainly with correspondence. Total number of the patient operated on in our department for gastric cancer f rom 1950 until 1961 is 421 cases, and tumors were resected in 265 cases namely 63%. The period between the onset of vague al imentary symptoms and the operation ranges f rom one month to fifteen years and 21 months on the average. It should be emphasized that level of diagnostic ability of home docters is important to yield good survival rate. 90% of all the operated patients belonged to the 3rd or 4th stage according to operative finding, and only one case was classified into 1st stage. On the contrary, half of the surviving patients belonged to 1st or 2nd stage, so only 50% of the surviver is derived f rom 3rd or 4th stage. The survivers who experienced gastrointest inal bleeding or obstructive jaundice postoperatively are not rare, so these are by no means desperate signs.
