The potential of the dynamic holography method for testing the phase optical homogeneity of media transparent in visible light has been considered. This method is based on imaging samples in the scheme of two-wave mixing of the second-harmonic radiation of a Nd:YAG laser and image amplification in a photorefractive barium-strontium niobate crystal. Examples of identifying phase inhomogeneities at a level of 10-5 cm-1 and less in crystals of different compositions are presented.

Numerical analysis of geometry of a double phase conjugate mirror is carried out in frames of two-dimensional model. The role of fanning in a process of scattering is consistently taken into account. Results of the specially conducted experiment aimed at verification of theoretical predictions are discussed

Most photorefractive crystals, suitable for the realization of self-pumped four-wave mixing phase conjugation and mutual conjugation geometries, are characterized by the high level of fanning. In some cases it may mean that the nonlinearity of these crystals is already too large to be good and a decrease in the value of a nonlinear coupling coefficient may result in an improved performance of these geometries. This point is illustrated using geometry of a self- pumped ring mirror.

Peculiarities of crystal growth and wave-mixing in pure and doped photorefractive strontium barium niobate crystals are 1nves tigated. Some problems o their application in dynamic holographic interferometry and vibrometry are considered.
