Bronchogenic adenocarcinoma of lung with metastasis in a rabbit-a case report

Carcass of a two years old doe on necropsy revealed multiple gray-white nodular lesions of about 2 cm diameter in the lung. The pre-scapular lymph node was about 3-5cm in diameter, hard in consistency and had a creamy-white cut surface. Cytological examination of impression smear from the lungs and pre-scapular lymph node revealed anisocytosis, anisokaryosis, vacuolation and hyperchromasia in epithelial cells. Microscopically, neoplastic epithelium surrounded by connective tissue stroma with marked nuclear pleomorphism could be observed in the lung tissue. The metastatic foci depicting acini of alveolar epithelial cells replacing the lymphoid tissue could be appreciated in the tissue sections of the pre-scapular lymph node. Based on the cytological and histopathological changes, the case was diagnosed as bronchogenic adenocarcinoma with metastasis to prescapular lymph node.
