Abstract Alkyl phosphites add to carbon-carbon double bonds in malononitriles compounds I and II to give the corresponding phosphonates IIIa,b, IVa,b, Va,b and VIa,b respectively. Also, alky! phosphites add to carbon-nitrogen double bonds in schiff bases VII and VIII to give the phosphonates IX and X. Structures of the new products were assigned and were consistent with analytical and spectroscopic measurements.

Abstract Several new 2-thiazolin-4-one, thiazolo[4,5-b]pyridine, thiazolin-4-on-2-yl pyrazole and pyrano[2,3-d]-1,3-thiazole derivatives were synthesised via the reactions of 2-α-cyanoacetonyl-2-thiazolin-4-one with a variety of α,β-unsaturated nitriles and other reagents. Structural elucidations were based on elementary analyses and spectral data studies.

Abstract The resonance-stabilized Wittig reagent 2 adds to the exocyclic ethylenic linkage of the arylidene malononitriles 1a–g to yield the new complex ylidenetriphenylphosphoranes 4a–g. The reaction is regiospecific which yields the E conformers of structure “4c”. Possible reaction mechanisms are considered and structures of the new products were confirmed on the basis of elemental analyses and spectral studies.

Abstract Several new hydrazidoyl halides containing the 2-thiazolin-4-one moiety were synthesised and reacted with several reagents to yield several additional heterocyclics. Structures were based on both elemental analysis and spectral data.

Abstract Thiophenols and diphenylphosphinodithioic acid add to carbonyl-carbon double bound in benzil-monoanil Ia, benzilmonoanil p-toluidine Ib and benzilmonoanil p-chloro Ic to give the corresponding diphenylethyl thiophenol IIIa,d,g, diphenylethyl thiophenol 2-amino III b,e,h and diphenylethyl diphenylphosphinodithioates III o.f.I respectively. The given structures were based upon analytical. chemical and spectroscopic results.

Several new coumarinoyl pyrazole and coumarionyl-1,2,4-triazole derivatives were synthesised via dipolar cycloaddition reactions with 3-coumarinohydraziodoyl halide. Structure were based on elemental analysis and spectral data.

Abstract Triphenylsilylsulfinylamine (1) was prepared via the reaction of triphenylsilylamine and thionylchloride. The reaction of (1) with copper and sodium metals gave the corresponding azo, and thioazo-derivatives (2, 3). Also cycloaddition products (4a-c) were prepared through the reaction of (1) with some alkenes under Diels-Alder reaction conditions. The nitrilimine (5) was reacted with (1) to give 1,2,3,5-thiatriazole-1-oxide (6).

Abstract2,3-Diphenyl-4-cyano-pyrrole-5-thione (4) was prepared either by the reaction of benzoin (1) and cyanothioacetamide (3) followed by cyclization using AcOH/sodium acetate or by refluxing a mixture of benzoin (1) and cyanothioacetamide in pyridine to afford directly4. Several new pyrrole and pyrazole derivatives were synthesised using4 as synthon. The structure of the newly synthesised derivatives were based on celemental and spectral data studies. Methylation of the SH group in4 afforded5. Reaction of4 with ethyl bromo acetate afforded (6). Treatment of (5) and (6) with hydrazine hydrate afforded the same pyrazole derivative (10) through the intermediate (9). Treatment of6 with aniline and phenylhydrazine afforded the pyrrole derivatives8a,b respectively. Treatment of6 while dil HCl gave 2,3-diphenyl-4-cyano-pyrrole-5-one (7). Treatment of6 with NH3/EtOH afforded the amidic derivatives (11) with treatment of6 with NH3/heat then acidification it gave the carboxylic derivatives (12).
