The term ‘organizational development’ refers to a systematic organization-wide attempt implemented to achieve an increase in an organizations effectiveness and competitiveness. It, in a basic sense, attempts to implement a plan change to improve employee satisfaction and the productivity of an organization by strengthening the human processes of an organization (Neilsen, 1984: 2-3). Porras and Robertson (1992) define the term as: “A practical application of the science of organizations. Drawing from several disciplines for its models, strategies and techniques, OD focuses on the planned change of human systems and contributions to organization science through the knowledge gained from its study of complex change dynamics” (Porras and Robertson, 1992: 720). In this paper, we intend on critically assessing this definition of organizational development in relation to globalization’s impact on organizations, and organizational diversity. In order to do so, this paper will assess whether globalization creates a need for organizational development (defined according to Porras and Robertson), and whether organizational diversity is the response to this need. By doing so, this paper also intends on establishing a link between these two areas. In addition, due to the unevenness within the development of globalization, this paper will assess the areas of globalization and from a South African context.

It is essential to record the causes of stress to an extent of stress in any health care organizations. Nursing involves activities and interpersonal relationships that are often stressful, while nurses are faced with greater demands and high expectation, while they are not well secured. The healthcare environment is a source of overwork and stress has been implicated in today s ’nursing shortage The study aimed to investigate work related stress and its impact on registered nurses performances at Katutura State Hospital in Windhoek, Namibia. Data was collected from registered nurses at the particular hospital, with a survey instrument method. A random sampling method was used to collect data from 90 participants. Introduction The nursing profession is very important in any country because nurses devote much of their time to enhance a country’s healthcare. Wicks (2006:143), asserts that being a healthcare professional is rewarding because it grants an opportunity to save, improve and lengthen people’s lives. However, healthcare professionals usually work during odd hours, thereby increasing the stress levels associated with the nursing profession. It is important to ensure that such stress levels are managed to ensure that nurses continue to deliver quality service despite the challenges they face in their day to day lives. Work-related stress has aroused growing interest across many countries in recent years. The increased integration of health delivery system in Namibia has constrained on the financing of healthcare. This has been worsened by the emergence of new diseases, a swelling urban population. The increased demand for health services is falling on the back of the health professionals. The increased demand for health care services puts both patients and nurses at risk of stress. This paper provides an overview of the existing literature on two inter-related concepts, Service Quality and Customer Satisfaction, and expands on it to examine their influence on Repatronage intentions. Contemporary business organisations have therefore recognised that customers are important stakeholders. There is consensus among researches that the delivery of high levels of service quality and customer satisfaction holds many benefits: it is a significant predictor of customer loyalty-related intentions (Fullerton, 2005:101); and it increases customers’ purchase intentions, store loyalty, favourable word-of-mouth recommendations (Mc Alexander, Kalenburg, and Koening, 2004:34). This study outlines the challenges South African Education systems is exposed to and how to mend the governance which is likely to produce sustainable results through-out the country compared to neighbors like Zimbabwe which has effective educational systems in place when it comes to basic education. The dawn of democracy put education of the children in the hands of the parents so that they may able to reap the fruits of their own intentions and hard work upon the education of their children as the government in power in the country believes that people shall govern and indeed at this facet of education the parents are governing. The old system of school committees was characterized by discrimination and was highly authoritative and hierarchical as well as being undemocratically. As a result of this many schools experienced poor management, inadequate funding, ineffective teaching and poor learning.

This study involved the assessment of business performance measurement at a refining business unit, in Ndola, Zambia. The goal of the study was to assess the current business performance measurement at the business unit, its significance on organisational performance and how it could be enhanced. This was done by using a survey method through a questionnaire distributed to a sample that was selected by stratified sampling and analysing the collected data to assess the knowledge, opinions and attitudes of the respondents as regards business performance measurement in the selected organisation. The research found that while business performance measurement exists in the organisation, the business unit concentrates more on business performance measures that enable it communicate business results to shareholders and industry regulators than measures which facilitate improvements in efficiency and business competitiveness. To enhance business performance measurement, the business unit should modify its current business performance measurement system, aligning it with a framework that will enhance internal business processes, satisfy multiple stakeholder needs and achieve greater growth and competitiveness.

Internal communication is a relatively new field of research, particularly within Transnet Freight Rail. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to investigate the internal communication challenges and issues of Transnet Freight Rail Bu Coal Vryheid. Three major themes were considered within the field of internal communication: internal communication management, the channels utilised within organisation for internal communication and whether measurement of the internal communication was evident. The findings indicate that internal communication is a large area of research that differs between organisations with content, structure and management. Additionally, a range of communication channels were used in all of the participant departments with emails the most predominant channel, while face-to-face communication was an often underutilised channel. One finding was the lack of formal measurement undertaken by the company, thereby contradicting the advisement of the academic literature. It was recommended that management specifically corporate affairs measure internal communication by conducting an internal communication audit. Face-to-face communication should be encouraged, there should be organised more meetings between different divisions/departments, people must realise that the division’s cooperation brings more effectiveness to everybody’s work; things are done faster, easier and better.

One of the current challenges facing the National Department of Health of South Africa is the shortage of skilled healthcare professionals. Trained South African health professionals have been migrating abroad, largely due to push and pull factors. In response to this, the South African National Department of Health began to explore other available mechanisms of increasing the quantity of skilled healthcare providers. In 2004, a national task team was assembled to establish a training curriculum, identify a scope of practice and outcomes for a new healthcare provider. This new cadre of mid-level providers is known as Clinical Associates. Clinical Associates perform an important part of the medical team and work under the supervision of medical doctors. They undergo three years university training and work in district hospitals throughout South Africa upon completion. Clinical Associates are similar to physician assistants in the United States of America (USA) and non-physician clinicians in the United Kingdom (UK). Similar use has been identified in other African countries such as Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. They perform many of the tasks previously performed by physicians, including examination, diagnosis, carry out investigations, and treat patients. A full evaluation of the impact of Clinical Associates has not yet been conducted and challenges have already been identified. In this study, both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies were used. The target population comprised of Clinical Associates, medical doctors, allied healthcare professionals and members of senior management. The measuring instrument used was multiple questionnaires, assessing the effectiveness of Clinical Associates in addressing the skills shortage of healthcare professionals at Tshwane District Hospital. The instrument focused on team capacity, efficiency, flexibility, the role and scope of practice of Clinical Associates.
