A Computerized Automatic Audiometer

The authors have developed a new type of pure tone audiometer which is built in the micro-computer and can measure automatically the air conduction thresholds in accordance with the testing program based on the standard manual audiometric procedure. The main characteristics of the equipment are as follows: 1. The pure tones of 4 of the 9 frequencies from 125 to 8000 Hz can be voluntarily chosen for automatic testing. Programs for instructions to subjects, subjects response practice and standard audiometric procedure are stored in the equipment. 2. The audiometer measures automatically the same threshold levels as those measured by the conventional manually operated pure tone audiometer. Of course, the equipment can also be used manually. 3. The threshold levels and messages obtained both automatically and manually can be punched on paper tape for off-line batch-processing purposes.

Retrieval system for the medical library database in the JNR hospital information system

A retrieval system for use with a medical library database is described. The input information was selected by physicians to include the author’s name, library ID, classification code and issue date, and is different from that normally found on a library document record. This data is stored on a computer disk, and can be retrieved by physicians via batch processing. The system was inexpensive to implement and involved relatively easy programming.
