Nevus Lipomatosus Cutaneous Superficialis : A Rare Giant Variant in an Unusual Location

Nambi Ilango; Kumaran Sachi; Marie Therese; Ashish Kumar Gupta

A 28-year-old man presented with painless swelling in the nape of the neck that had been present for 15 years. On examination, there was a 1520-cm swelling, with well-defined margins, cerebriform surface, pale pink color, and rubbery consistency that was not fixed to the deeper structures (Figure 1). There were no café-au-lait spots, neurological or developmental defects. Biopsy of the swelling was suggestive of nevus lipomatosus cutaneous superficialis and was managed using wide local excision and split skin grafting.

could not as yet be valued. The patient started walking 2 weeks after the skin grafting without pain and in a good physical and psychological condition. We strongly suggest that the use of platelet-rich plasma and fatty cells represents an efficient therapeutic method for chronic skin wounds. The application of the autologous adipose tissue and platelet-rich plasma on the lower leg ulcer seemed to accelerate the wound-healing process. However, the mechanism and the protocol of this method have not yet been optimised.

Letter: Ear Piercing: A Simple Solution to Preserve the Marking and Asepsis

Nambi Ilango; Kumaran Sachi; Ashish Kumar Gupta

Ear piercing is done for cosmetic and religious reasons all around the world and is done using various methods. Irrespective of the methods adopted and part of the ear to be pierced, prior marking and maintaining an aseptic environment is vital to avoid complications of body piercing. The conventional method is to select the point and mark it with an indelible ink, either by the patient or by the parent in case of children, followed by cleansing the area with antiseptic solution before the skin is pierced. This procedure is clumsy at times because the cleansing erases the marking or distorts it even if an indelible ink is used, resulting in discrepancy of the level of piercing in both the ears. To avoid this, we found a simple solution: cleansing the area with antiseptic solution and allowing to dry at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes. Then the patient, looking in the mirror, or the parent does the marking with an indelible,alcohol-based ink without their finger coming in contact with the cleansed ear. In this way the markings are preserved, and the sterile atmosphere is maintained, preventing discrepancy of the levels of piercing on both sides.
