Realizing the Promise of Humanistic Education A Reconstructed Pedagogy for Personal and Social Change

This article proposes an integration of critical theory and humanistic education. Strengths and limitations of each approach are discussed and the positive outcomes of their synthesis suggested. A model for liberatory education is proposed that incorporates the pedagogical skills of the humanists with the social analysis of the critical theorists. Examples of such integration in the work of educators in various fields are described.
