We demonstrate two-dimensional detection optical coherence tomography (OCT) using achromatic phase shifting with a rotating polarizer. This phase shifting, which experiences a light beam with a cyclic change in its polarization state, is, in principle, independent of wavelength. We simulated the wavelength dependence of an achromatic phase shifter using Jones calculus and found that the achromatic region exceeded 145 nm when the deviation of the phase retardation was less than +/- 0.5 degrees. Using the achromatic phase shifter and a conventional phase-shift calculation method, we obtained en face OCT images of an onion at different depths. This method is effective to enhance the quality of OCT with an ultrabroad-spectrum light source.

Summary form only given. Optical coherence-domain reflectometry (OCDR) based on optical broadband interferometry is a powerful tool for micrometer-scale imaging in objects including miniature devices and recently biological tissues. In conventional OCDR, the image acquisition speed is limited by the scanning speed of the translating mirror. In this paper we demonstrate a non-scanning OCDR technique for real-time imaging.

An optical coherence tomography system employing an array of retroreflectors mounted on a rotating disk has been developed for ophthalmology. Backscatter signals from the anterior segment and retina of the eye can be detected in a single A-scan.

A nonscanning optical coherence tomography system based on off-axis interferometry is developed for real time, depth resolved imaging in turbid media. Detection techniques involving spatial and temporal modulations of the interference fringe are presented.

A detector-array-based detection configuration for Doppler optical coherence tomography in turbid media is described. Experiment is performed to demonstrate that simultaneous measurement of flow velocity and direction can be realized using angle-resolved heterodyne detection method.
