Cluster Cascade Model for High Energy Hadron-Nucleus Collisions

Naomichi Suzuki; Sohkichi Suzuki

Single particle distributions and two·particle correlations in high energy proton-nucleus collisions are studied by the use of cluster cascade model. It is shown in case of the independent emission of clusters, the average charged multiplicity from a cluster <k) is about 1.4, which is consistent with the analysis of jJ-P experiments and tbat charged particles emitted from different clusters make a marked contribution to the two-particle correlation in proton-nucleus collisions contrary to the case in p-p collisions. The mean free path of cluster in a nucleus is required to lengthen with the increase of the energy of incident particle to describe the energy dependence of experimental data.

Analysis of Leading Proton Spectrum in High Energy Proton-Nucleus Collisions

Schin Date; Itsuro Hashizume; Atsushi Nakamura; Ichiro Ohba; Naomichi Suzuki

Leading proton spectrum in high energy proton-nucleus collisions is analyzed on the basis of the intranuclear cascade model. The model includes the possibility of low attenuation of leading proton in the nuclear matter at high energies. Experimental data at 24 Ge V / c with Be, Al, Cu and Pb targets are consistent with the conventional cascade model. It is difficult, however, to understand p-Be data at 200 GeV/c in terms of this conventional model. On the assumption that the particles entering into the nucleus interact with the nucleons only within one mean free path on the average and that they become inactive through the nucleus, the theoretical results come to be more consistent with the data than the case of the conventional model.
