Acetylenic thiophene derivatives from Blumea obliqua

Viqar Uddin Ahmad; Naseer Alam

Abstract The phytochemical investigations of Blumea obliqua afforded 5′-methyl-[5-(4-acetoxy-1-butynyl)]-2,2′-bithiophene, 5′-methyl-[5-(4-hydroxy-1-butynyl)]-2,2′-bithiophene, 5′-acetoxymethyl-5-(3-butene-1-ynyl)-2,2′-bithiophene and 5′-methyl-[5-(3-hydroxy-4-isovaleroxy-1-butynyl)]-2,2′-bithiophene. The first three thiophenes are known compounds whereas the fourth is a new natural product. The structures of these compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic methods.

Two New C-Glycosylflavones From Silene Conoidea

Zulfiqar Ali; Viqar Uddin Ahmad; Muhammad Shaiq Ali; Fazila Iqbal; Muhammad Zahid; Naseer Alam

Abstract The butanol-soluble part of the methanolic extract of Silene conoidea afforded two new flavone glycosides having C-C linkage between C-8 and C-1″: 8-C-(4″-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl)-β-D-glucopyranosyldiosmetin (1) and 8-C-(4″-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl)-β-D-glucopyranosylapigenin (2). Both the glycosides were purified by HPLC and characterized spectroscopically. In addition to 1–2, α-spinasterol (3) and its giucoside (4) have also been reported for the first time from the investigated source.

Three New Diterpenoids from Euphorbia cheiradenia

Muhammad Abbas; Muhammad Zahid; Zulfiqar Ali; Naseer Alam; Farzana Akhtar; M. Iqbal Choudhary; Viqar Uddin Ahmad

Three new diterpene esters, cheiradone (1), cheiradone A (2), and cheiradone B (3), were isolated from the aerial parts of Euphorbia cheiradenia, collected in Iran. The structures were determined using different spectroscopic methods, including 1D and 2D NMR and X-ray diffraction analysis.

Acetylenic thiophenes from blumea obliqua

Viqar Uddin Ahmad; Naseer Alam; Mohammad Qaisar

Abstract The acetylenic thiophene constituents from the aerial parts of Blumea obliqua yielded a novel dithienyl acetylene, 5′-Methylene-bis- 5 , 3 , 1 -2,2′-bithiophene, along with 5′-Hydroxymethyl5-(3-butene-1-ynyl)-2,2′-bithiophene and 5′-Carboxaldehyde-5-(3-butene-1-ynyl)-2,2′-bithiophene.

A new triterpenoidal saponin from the bark of Guaiacum officinale L

Viqar Uddin Ahmad; Nikhat Saba; Zulfiqar Ali; Muhammad Zahid; Naseer Alam

A new triterpenoidal saponin, akebonic acid-3-O-[α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→3)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-( l→3)-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(l→2)-β-L-arabinopyranoside], named as guaianin Q (1), was isolated from the n-butanolic extract of the bark of Guaiacum officinale L. The structure of 1 was established with the help of the comparative studies of ID and 2D 1H - 13C NMR methods, FABMS, alkaline and acid hydrolyses. In addition to 1, a number of known saponins were also isolated and reported from the same source.

ISOPERADIONE : A NEW TRITERPENOID FROM SALVIA BUCHARICA

Viqar Uddin Ahmad; Muhammad Zahid; Muhammad Shaiq Ali; Zulfiqar Ali; Naseer Alam; Rasool Bakhsh Tareen; Muhammad Iqbal

A new isomer of peradione (2) named as isoperadione (1) has been isolated along with peradione (2) and perovskone (3) from the hexane soluble part of Salvia bucharica. The structures of 1 - 3 were elucidated with the aid of modern spectroscopic techniques.
