Abstract From the rhizome of Iris germanica one new hexaoxygenated isoflavone, two new polyoxygenated isoflavone glucosides, the known isoflavonoids irisolidone, irigenin and iridin and acetovanillone, sitosterol, α-amyrin and β-amyrin were isolated. The structures of the new compounds were established by chemical and spectroscopic means and by correlation with known constitutents.

Abstract Caryophyllene oxide, α-tocopherol, Z and E -werneria chromenes, two furanocoumarins, bakuchicin and psoralen, in addition to plicatin-B, lupeol and stigmasterol, have been isolated from the hexane-soluble extract of the aerial parts of Psoralea plicata . Plicatin-A, 3-(-3-methyl-2,3-epoxybutyl)- p -coumaric acid methyl ester and a new dimer, α- diplicatin B, were isolated from the ethyl acetate-soluble fraction. From the butanol-soluble matter, roseoside A, daidzin, isopsoralic acid- O -gluco-pyranosyl and isovitexin were isolated. Most of these compounds have been isolated from this species for the first time, although known from other plant sources.

Abstract Two new isoflavonoid biosides, tectorigenin 4′-glucosyl (1→6)glucoside and iristectorigenin B 7-glucosyl (1→6)glucoside, a new isoflavonoid monoside, 4′-methyltectorigenin 7-glucoside and a new flavone glucoside, 6,4′-dimethoxy-5-hydroxyflavone 7-glucoside, together with tectoridin and tectorigenin 4′-glucoside were isolated from rhizomes of Iris carthaliniae . The structures of the isolated compounds were determined by NMR spectral analysis.

Three hydroxymethylanthraquinone glycosides, in addition to the known compounds alizarin, lucidin-ω-ethyl ether, lucidin primeveroside and the iridoid asperuloside were isolated from the dried roots of Rubia tinctorum. The first three compounds were isolated for the first time from this species. The structures were established as 1-hydroxy-2-hydroxymethylanthraquinone 3-glucoside, 2-hydroxymethylanthraquinone 3-glucoside and 3,8-dihdroxy-2-hydroxymethylanthraquinone 3-glucoside.

Two new pregnene derivatives 14beta-15alpha-dihydroxy-delta4pregnene-3,20 dione and 3beta-14beta,15alpha-16alpha hydroxy-20-oxo-delta5pregnene-tetra-ol, in addition to alpha- and beta-amyrin and beta-sitosterol, were isolated from Solenostemma argel leaves. The structures were established by extensive spectral analysis as well as comparison with reference materials.

Abstract Three triterpenoidal saponins (glinusides A, B and C) were isolated from the n-butanol fraction of Glinus lotoides var. dictamnoides, their structures being determined by means of spectroscopic methods as 3-O-β- l -arabinopyranosyl -22-O-β- d -glucopyranosyl (4←1)-α- l -rhamnopyranosyl -15β- hydroxyhopan -6- one , 3-O-β- l -arabinopyranosyl -15-O-β- d -glucopyranosyl -22β- hydroxyhopan-6-one and 3-O-β- d -glucopyranosyl (4←1)-β- l -arabinopyranosyl -22β- hydroxyhopan-6-one , respectively.

Fractionation of a methanol extract obtained from rhizomes of I. spuria (Zeal) resulted in the isolation of seven iridalglycosides 5a,b, 6a-c, 7, 8. The structures of the aglycons and the position of the glycosidic bonds were elucidated by spectroscopic analyses. The nature of the sugar moieties was determined as glucose from capillary GC and GC/MS analyses after hydrolysis of the compounds, reduction and derivatization of the resulting hexitols in comparison to authentic standards. Methylation analysis revealed the glycosyl-linkage composition. The number and position of the glucose residues was determined by ozonolysis.

Abstract Three new benzofuran glycosides were isolated from the N -butanol soluble fraction of Psoralea plicata seeds, together with psoralic acid (6←1)- O - β - d -glucopyranoside ( E -form), previously isolated from the aerial parts of the same plant. The structures have been determined by different spectroscopic measurements.

Abstract Seven guaianolides have been isolated from the herb Venidium fastuosum , four of them are new and are designated as chlorovenidin, C-10/C-14-3-isodeoxyarctolide, 9β-hydroxy-11β, 13-dihydrozaluzanin C and chlorovenidol. The other three were identified as arctolide, 3-deacety]-10,14-deoxy arctolide and 3-deacetyl-11,13-dihydro-10,14-deoxy arctolide. The structures of the above compounds were established by spectroscopic methods.
